Summary:

Salva is a relatively new president at Valencia and this stance is unusual as the club usual sell when a big offer comes in. He says he's told Spurs that he will not accept a payment structure which is less than the £26m buyout, even if it includes add-ons, but he is willing to negotiate a deal which means Spurs don't pay the full fee now, as long as it IS paid eventually. I didn't quite understand that as surely add-ons ultimately bridge this difference, but then I guess it depends on the add-ons.

So there's certainly scope for more haggling but he's adamant that Valencia receive £26m in full or Soldado will not leave the club this summer.

Hunter said if Spurs think this is the man who can get goals - which he clearly is - and fire them into the Champions League again, then they have to spend big and Soldado is certainly a striker who can offer that. So the ball is in Levy's court.

He also mentioned that Soldado told him last summer he was all set to sign for Spurs having been impressed by the club and our interest but decided to stay at Valencia for another year - so Spurs have that in their favour too.

The add ons won't be guaranteed - so that's the problem there. You would have to consider how realistic the add ons are as well.

He will want to show off his 'strength' then. Supposedly their last president was awful and pretty much gave players away. Damn it!
£35.2 million for Villa
£23.5 for Mata
£25.3 million for David Silva

Considering their debt at the time, those aren't bad prices to get.

I know we're all desperate for this to happen but let's not dress up the fact this could potentially be a long way off.

If we supposedly wouldn't pay anywhere near the amount Villa wanted for Benteke, who is 6 years Soldado's junior; I'm still struggling to fathom how Levy has been convinced into this one.

I think it all hangs on how desperate Valencia are behind closed doors for the finances... Surely Levy has got to want to keep the up-front fee south of £20 million.

I agree but I don't think the up front fee matters too much to Levy (obviously it does to an extent).

I think the difference between a deal in instalments and a deal with a smaller up front fee and add ons is the former guarantees Valencia 30mil, even if that 30 mil takes 100 years to fully come through. A guaranteed payment of Spurs to Valencia of 30 mil over however many years, and with however much of an up front fee is still 30mill spent and 30mill that has to be budgeted for by Levy.

A deal with add ons that adds up to 30mil however has a chance of never having to fully reach 30mil due to a variety of circumstances.

Problem is, it sounds so simplistic to the average Joe to say "just pay the extra couple of million" but there are so many variables that need to be considered and the impact on the cash flow from our point of view in conjunction with all our other outgoings.

I still believe is will be concluded but I'll be buggered if it's not for an 'undisclosed' fee!

I still don't think this will happen, Levy won't pay what they want.

But to those dating this us too much. Had it occurred to you that a huge signing is a double edged sword?
You get a top quality player AND you make a massive statement of intent.
You make the footballing world sit up and take notice.

Could still be taken out of his hands by Lewis who according to ITK wants CL football

I'm predicting a transfer request then if no other clubs come in for him

Well in a business context cash flow is everything so I'd disagree on the not mattering part for Spurs. We, and almost every other club would prefer staggered instalment payments as it allows the books to be balanced more efficiently.

I do agree on the second part though; some of the clauses/add-ons will 100% be implemented as a safe-guard to ensure value is returned on our investment. One I'd fathom would be orientated around goals scored and/or qualification for the CL.

If i was to be positive I'd say perhaps Levy thought he could get Benteke cheap as well as Soldado. When it became clear he couldn't he gave up and went for Soldado.

But honestly. I think he just goes around trying to buy players he can't afford in an attempt to show ambition and sell shirts and season tickets.

I'm probably in the minority here but £25.8m is a outrageous amount of money to pay for him. We are not a financially doped club like CFC or MCFC hence don't have money to burn. We are getting proper shafted here if we pay that fee...
