Yeah.

We may need liquid cash to fund other things, whether it be transfers or facility development.

Also, although you're right in essence we're paying the same amount but the difference is if we pay in instalments we can offset some of the load via different revenue streams e.g season ticket sales or merchandise.

tl;dr: Instalments lessens the financial burden on a club.

Cheers for that.

My take, for what it is worth, is that the fee has been agreed but we have offered part of the total in add ons (appearances, CL performance etc.) which perhaps they cannot "sell" to their creditors as add ons may, or may not transpire. They seem to be happy to take the the total payment over a period as, in this way, the total payment is guaranteed to be received, albeit over a period of time. This is probably an acceptable arrangement for their creditors but I guess DL has seen their soft white underbelly and is playing hard ball on the amount of the initial sum to be paid and the structure of the subsequent payment of the balance. It is now just a game of poker and my money is on DL to get his way.

I think this could be pretty dam close to what's going on.

£25m an obscene fee for a proven 20+ goal a season striker? One that has proven himself on the two highest stages, international and champions league football.

Alrighty then.

Totally agree. It's 'only' £8m more than Paulinho, which is an accurate reflection of the difference between an elite striker compared to the best player in any other position in today's market. Obviously, there are variables but in all honesty it's reasonable and realistic in my opinion.

I think it's fair and the reason I think we will conclude is that as others have said, a release clause deal is theoretically easier to complete as there is a ceiling which DL will inevitably favour. And we've already completed one in Paulinho.

My only worry is Liverpool coming in if Suarez leaves or Arsenal coming in if they don't get Suarez or Higuain. There aren't many decent strikers left and at least one of them will want one.

Yea, you would think it's just a matter of time now. I'm still optimistic that the deal will be concluded even if not as soon as we may have thought.

If that were really the case though mate, and they really wanted Soldado they would be in now for him. Ok you could argue he could be a second or third choice for Arsenal say...but I just don't buy it.

If anyone thinks €30million is too much for a proven international, league and CL scorer just think of the fact that P$G paid €35 million for an unproven 19-year old uncapped brazillian defender

Also, I think if that happened we would immediately pay the release clause and surely Soldado would pick us over Liverpool

I hope so!

For all we know, Valencia might have accepted our bid, is putting out information like this to make other clubs think it's not done while they try to find a striker replacement.

I thought we'd see some more conclusive comments come out in the media tonight about whether or not this deal is still being worked on or not.

I assume silence from Tottenham Towers can be seen as a positive. If you're grasping, which I am,

I was saying this earlier...but doesn't everybody know the ball park they'll be getting for Soldado? I was thinking the same so they could avoid inflated prices but it might be a bit of a moot point given they've been open about what they expect to get.

Sometimes you have to overpay for a player you want if they can make the difference. Bayern over-paid for Javi Martinez. They said this public he is not worth 40 million. Martinez allowed them to win the champions league. And no one now is criticising the decision to sign Martinez.

Some have the luxury to be able to overpay - we are not among them.

I got to say I think the whole Liverpool links is being made up by Valencia, and I imagine LFC are happy to let them use their name as it gives a cursory impression to their fans that they're in the market.
