Rumours Suarez is about to submit a transfer request. We need this deal done!

Pool would have to change their entire attacking ideology if they went for Soldado. Rodgers pretty much has Suarez act as a mix between a no 9 and 10. He starts from outside the box and creates his own chances, and chances for his teammates across the front (which he sometimes swaps with). Soldado scored all 24 of his goals last season from inside the box. He finishes, he operates inside the box, he doesn't create chances outside like Suarez; he is a pure striker. Sturridge is much closer to Suarez than Soldado is, and I don't see Rodgers changing his tactics after working them into his young side so hard.

If Valencia ask about Postiga.. do we keep schtum?

Keep schtum about what? Everyone knows he's a more than capable replacement for Soldado....everyone knows that, especially us. If anything, he's way better.

At least now they've more than replaced Soldado, they might as well let him go for nothing

everyone just play along now...it may just work

I just can't think of anyone similar to Suarez they could get. Rogers has said he wants a 20 goal a season striker - most of them are gone.

I am more excited by Soldado than Benteke. Altho I guess a lot of us are. However what's everyone's thoughts on who is better, or actually better question: who would have a better season next season for us?

I think Soldado is gonna bang em in for us.

strangely I wanted us to sign Soldado more than David Villa and was happy when the Villa deal fell through. then got very excited about Benteke and was gutted when he resigned with Aston villa. now that we are allegedly close to signing Soldado I am not that excited and would have no qualms if the deal does not happen. I would take Benteke every day of the week.

if we sign Soldado then to answer your question I still think Benteke will outscore Soldado. I think my bias and really really wanting the Benteke deal to have happened is obviously skewing my decision towards him though.

IMO Sturridge has a 20 goal season in him if he stays fit. Not got the best technical ability but got goals in him.

We're fucking idiots to be trying to sign Soldado for 26 big ones when Postiga is going for €4 mil. :cautious:
Another genius move by that goddam idiot Levy. Doesn't he realise we're not made of money? His playing fast and loose with our cash will be our downfall!

Honestly, they are in trouble if they lose Suarez. He does so much for their side, that it is entirely built around him. If they lose Suarez, they drop their chances of competing in the top table for a few years (imo).

Roberto Soldado asks Valencia to let him join Tottenham. #THFC #LFC #VAL #ESP
Roberto Soldado has asked Valencia president Amadeo Salvo to come to a compromise with Tottenham over a transfer fee. Speaking earlier on Wednesday, Salvo said that "Soldado can go if he wants - for €30million and under our conditions", but has been pressed by the Spain international striker to allow a switch to the Premier League at a more reasonable valuation.

Having lost Soldado's compatriot David Villa to Atletico Madrid, Tottenham are increasingly confident of completing what would constitute a club-record transfer deal. Soldado, 28, has scored 59 goals in 101 La Liga appearances for Valencia over three seasons and has six goals from his 11 full internationals for Spain.

"It's not a lie to anybody that we've been looking for a striker to strengthen our squad and to have more strength in depth,” said Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas this week. "Roberto is one of the players we have been following and his career speaks for itself. He's a great striker. But there isn't a deal being struck at the moment, it's just interest and conversations."

Nothing to do with your post - but is your avatar a pic of Scroobius Pip with the Sri Lankan flag behind him?

Now that is a wonderful combination.

I never believed Soldado was even a realistic option for us - given the quality of him, but pertinently being in his prime. Not like Villa really. And of course I didn't think we would spend big on a 28 year old. Benteke I really wanted because I thought he was the most realistic forward signing we could make. I still think he has a big future ahead of him, no doubt about it for me. Villa was the one I wasn't drooling over actually. Phenomenal player, but nearly 32 off the back off a severe injury.

Stunned in the most positive possible way if we pull this off. An incredible striker in his prime.

Greg Stobart- Apparentely he is reliable
The Valencia striker is keen on a move to the Premier League, with boss Andre Villas-Boas desperate to strengthen his attacking line-up before the start of the 2013-14 campaign
EXCLUSIVE
By Greg Stobart

Tottenham remain confident of signing Roberto Soldado from Valencia in a £24 million [€28m] deal as the striker pushes for a move to White Hart Lane, Goal can reveal.

Valencia rejected Spurs' take-it-or-leave it bid of £22m [€26m] plus add-ons for Soldado on Tuesday but the offer remains on the table.

Club president Amadeo Salvo has publicly insisted the Spanish side will hold out for the £25m [€30m] clause in Soldado's contract - but the rest of his board want to accept Tottenham's offer.

Franco Baldini, the Tottenham technical director, flew back to London from Valencia on Tuesday without an agreement for the 28-year-old Spain international and Spurs have no plans to increase their bid.

But contrary to reports in Spain, the deal is far from dead, not least because Soldado has expressed his desire to move to the Premier League club.

The former Getafe man may hand in a transfer request as he looks for force through the move to White Hart Lane.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Soldado has already agreed a salary package worth £3m-a-year to play for Andre Villas-Boas' side.

Villas-Boas is desperate to strengthen his strikeforce this summer and has already missed out on David Villa and Christian Benteke.

Soldado has been a long-term target for Tottenham but chairman Daniel Levy has until now been reluctant to smash the club's transfer record on a player with little sell-on value due to his age.

Spurs, however, are keen to back Villas-Boas as they target a top-four finish next season, and to convince star man Gareth Bale of their ambition.

They have already signed midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians for a club record £17m and winger Nacer Chadli from FC Twente for £6m.

Soldado has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in La Liga in recent years and netted 24 times in 35 league appearances last term. He has also scored six goals in 11 international appearances for Spain.

doesn't sound like a transfer request yet, though maybe it's enough for them to spin "well we really wanted to keep him but he wants to go"
