I've seen a couple of suggested Lions teams with 12 Welsh players out of the 15, and I have to say if that is what happens I probably won't be watching, and certainly wouldn't be cheering them on. I would find space for representatives of all home nations and an absolute maximum of 9 from any one.
:D And who says its us Celts that have a chip on our respective shoulders!

It's not a chip, but while I'm perfectly happy to change my tribal allegiance to a British & Irish team, I can't see myself changing it to a Welsh one. But have a mix in the team and I'll be encouraging at the Welsh (& Scottish & Irish) guys with just as much enthusiasm as the English.

If Spain made up the European Ryder Cup team I'd be the same.

This was my selection earlier - I think it's reasonably fair

Full Back - L Halfpenny
Wing - A Cuthbert
Centre - B O Driscoll
Centre - M Tuilagi
Wing - T Bowe if fit or if not then G North
Fly Half - O Farrell
Scrum Half - M Philiips
Loose Head Prop - Gethin Jenkins
Hooker - Richard Hibbard
Tight Head Prop - Adam Jones
Second Row - Alun Wyn Jones
Second Row - Not sure here - Ian Evans has been outstanding but I think one of the English locks here - Launchbury/Parling? or Ritchie Gray
Blind Side Flanker - Chris Robshaw
Openside Flanker - Sam Warburton or Justin Tipuric
Number 8 - Toby Faletau

It's not easy is it, but it would have to be Hogg. At full back. (Sorry Leigh)

Halfpenny is a shoe in for full back and has had a pretty much exemplary 6 Nations with multiple MotM's.

Hogg is good but he's certainly not taking Halpenny's spot!

I just found amusing as its always the Celts (and in particular Wales when it comes to rugby) that are accused of not uniting together as British. I do understand what you mean (I was a little annoyed in 2005) but for me its like not supporting ex Chavs or Goons if they come to play for Spurs.

Anyway I expect you'll have one or two in the squad ;)

You would play Hogg instead of Halfpenny? Come off it. Halfpenny is probably one of the best fullbacks in the world on current form.

I know, I know, and you're both right, and I love Halfpenny, but if I'm going on the basis of having at least one representative of each country in the starting XV, which other Scot am I going to use? Hogg's a player - good kicker, safe and brave under the high ball, comes into the line well ... Who else do I choose and who else do I move aside to make room ?

Stick Ritchie Gray in the forwards, or maitland on the wing

Surprised nobody has gone with Rory Best at Hooker - Hibbard had a great game against England but would probably plump for Best.

Rory Best had a pretty decent tournament, but I think Hibbard's consistency over the last 6 months should earn him his test jersey. I watch a lot of the Rabo Direct and Heineken cups and Hibbard just edges it for me. Last season he was unfit and couldnt last a game but he changed some things inhis lifestyle and its really improved his all round game.

TSH - there may have been a lot of Welsh players in the starting XV I posted, but that was based purely on recent form. There's a good chance that not even all of them players will get on the plane as there's always some injuries towards the end of season, but as we stand today I think that would be pretty close to the test team imo.

I can only see a handful of scots making the plane - Visser, Hamilton, Hines, Hogg and Laidlaw possibly. Richie Gray probably wont be fit to tour but I think he would have been there.

Number 8 is something of a sticking point. Beattie is certainly in with a shout. So there is a Scot. Hogg will tour 100%, and I wouldn't be too miffed to see him, Halfpenny and Kearney making up a back 3 assuming Bowe can't make it.
Nathan Hines has to tour IMO and start. He is Scottish, although retired from internationals. I hope Visser don't tour. I don't want Dutchmen playing for the Lions!

Someone asked earlier how Sheridan is playing. Well, ask Gethin Jenkins...the man who has made a fair few people's Lions test team can't get in his club side because he is being kept out by...yep, Andrew Sheridan! Apparently Jenkins has spent most of his time in France getting beasted by his opposite number when he has seen game time. I have a lot of time for Corbisiero too. A hell of a lot of time. Top scrummager and badly missed by England. If fit I would take him.

So you dont want a dutchman, but you'd take an aussie [hines]?? :)

Sheridan has been very impressive lately by all accounts in the scrum, but playing prop in France is completely different to propping in Oz.

As for Sheridan, he has proved against the Aussies he can do the business. I don't think he will tour though, which is a shame.

I just think the selectors are more likely to go for a 'flier' type, someone who does more around the park than just mainly scrummage.
Sheridan could be a good choice though as a backup/midweek team

The issue with any French based players is when their season ends. If anyone (say Sheridan at Toulon) reaches the final then they are held early June and so will be on at the same time as the Lions warm up games I imagine. I don't know what the availability would be for these players. You don't really want them missing the early warm up games and then dashing out there for the next ones exhausted and under prepared.
