Why can't we compete with the big clubs when it comes to transfers? Because we don't pay the wages. Why did Mane choose Liverpool? Because they pay him 150k a week he choose a non champs league club. Salarys are a huge part in getting a player
I refuse to believe Danny Rose is on 30k
Cmon that can't be right?
Yeah no wayIt isn't right, but somewhere on the internet says it is so some people use it to back up their agendas.
So would you prefer we'd paid £100m combined for Sterling and Stones and given them 6 figure per week salaries, or cleverly scouted Dier and Dele, paid £9m and given them reasonable salaries? Why can't we compete with the big clubs when it comes to transfers? Because we don't pay the wages. Why did Mane choose Liverpool? Because they pay him 150k a week he choose a non champs league club. Salarys are a huge part in getting a player
I think you've missed the point of the whole thread..... the question isn't why can't we pay higher salaries. The question was do players pick money first. I'm saying a huge proportion dolet me help you out here millsey
1, we are funding a new developement, and have been doing so for a good few years, and taken a massive knock due to brexit
2, our old stadium's income doesn't match the 5 teams above us in the money list, and even more restricted last season with knocking our attendance down by 4k each match = £160k x 19 = £304k (going by £40 per seat) without loss of merchandise, and everything else that goes with it.
3, also our worldwide status is below them in financial terms, mainly due to recent success Chelsea, Man C and being owned by money men, Man Utd because they have always had a massive stadium and a massive following which goes back to the days before the Munich air disaster + 20 years of continuous success. Liverpool because of their history of winning 19 titles, and 5 European/CL Cups
4, if we signed Mane and paid him £150k a week, the rest of our squad would of required some parity, meaning our wage bill would of doubled, which means we wouldn't be within the FFP rules.
hope this helps even though I know your question it, but hey ho

We finished 2nd and Liverpool finished 4th though and we didn't need to pay huge wages to get to that position. Why can't we compete with the big clubs when it comes to transfers? Again missing the entire point. The argument is do most players find money a huge factor in footballWe finished 2nd and Liverpool finished 4th though and we didn't need to pay huge wages to get to that position.

If this team breaks up because of not paying players like Walker and Rose parity with players like Son who is on £85k a week then Levy needs to be held to account. I am not having it that because of the new stadium we can`t pay better wages than West Ham and Crystal Palace. We have waited years to be in a position to challenge and to see it fade away because of lack of ambition and trying to be a smart business negotiator would be heart breaking.

Of course it's a huge favor but that's far from being the only reason otherwise we would see a lot more players playing in Russia, China and the Middle East.Again missing the entire point. The argument is do most players find money a huge favour in football
Will we keep our current world class/almost world class players?Of course it's a huge favor but that's far from being the only reason otherwise we would see a lot more players playing in Russia, China and the Middle East.
Most players want to play not just collect their money by sitting on the bench, they want to win things. That's why we couldn't keep a world class player like Klinsmann and others like Bale and Modric.
No-one has shown themselves to be world class yet. Will we keep our current world class/almost world class players?
Finally a sensible discussion about itNo-one has shown themselves to be world class yet.
For that they need to make a mark internationally or in the champs league.
Bale and Modric were world class and even when nwhl is up to speed, players like them will be hard to keep as they can name their price.
But it is simply wrong that they might earn 400k a week while the younger players are earning less than a 1/10th of that.
Are they really 10X more important? I rather the players get their share of the TV bonanza than just the owners cashing in, but it should be distributed reasonably.
I truly believe that no one will be leaving this season unless Poch and Levy are happy for them to leave. Will we keep our current world class/almost world class players?
The reason why people have given out so much flak is because the claims that the OP made about players wages are not backed with a shred of evidence. Finally a sensible discussion about it
