Hope we don't fall into the trap of spending money from budget on what will likely be a haphazard backup striker just because we feel we need a backup striker.
Strikers near enough always require game time to maintain form and sharpness, something you won't get here. No matter the quality of the player all that will happen from sitting on bench is they become a worthless option due to their form disappearing.
There is not a single striker on the planet who you'd class as quality who will sign for Spurs with Kane here. You end up with prospects (Janssen), experience (Llorente) or second rate strikers (Rondon). All end the same way that most footballers who aren't getting game time would.
Don't bother with a backup Striker only able to play at 9. Either simply use Son as backup or buy someone who will start games on left or right but can also play up top, something that means he's in form and sharp if needed to deputise for Kane.
Good points you make and totally agree. But this last one will get some folks' 'back up'. I don't know if was anger due to the general lack of conifers on the island or a hatred of soft woods. @GB160Its not the worst bit of business we could do. 16 million for an experienced back-up striker. its nothing to get excited about but Janssen and Llorente offered little, and its not like we are going to get a top striker to ride the pine.
Honestly I would quite like him?
Big
Fast
Strong
Technically very good
Does not stop running always hassling defenders
Bullies defenders and is also a very nice guy.
He's better than Llorente and Janssen he's also been quite good for West Brom. He's always made our defenders look average so maybe with better service you never know for 16 million you won't get much better.
Makes no sense at all to me to get another backup striker who can only play one position. He'll barely play and when he does etc ... If the club haven't learnt by now after Janssen and Llorente ..
With all due respect, I don't want someone who's big, strong, runs and is a nice guy. I want someone who can fill in for Kane on the rare occasions he isn't playing and score goals.
No but the problem is why would you as a striker join spurs?
We won't be getting a striker thats good enough to start ahead of Kane etc.
So you have to look at the next tier down a decent enough player to sit on the bench that can influence games.
