Regardless of weather this is true, the fact is, as I've said before, that Berba is a fantastic player and if we're not performing then it's only natural that the lure of bigger teams will tempt him.

However, it'd be unfair to bail on us before the season's over - Ramos has been with us just 1 week and it takes longer than that to get things working!!

there are news about this one today again .. looks like Berbatov wants to leave .. so, why they are calling for a meeting with Comolli ?

I would love to see him staying, but if he don't want, he can go, it's better to stick with players whom care about the club !

If he wants to stay for another 2-3 seasons then great. But if he doesn't, and if the rumours of a £28m buy-out clause in his contract being correct, then I'd let him go gladly. I'd much rather that if he left he didn't go to another Prem League team, but if we were to secure £28m quite frankly he could go wherever he wanted and I'd drive him there, because £28m would fill an awful lot of holes in our team.

Don't get me wrong - my preference is for him to stay, but only if he wants to and is going to play as such.

Quite right JFHI. He's only good for us if he wants to stay, and wants to help the team build themselves up again. We all want him to stay under these circumstances.

I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he has more scruples than the traditional 'I am wonderful, I am going to Man Utd' mindset.

However, after one season in the prem where he set the world alight, maybe his ego has grown some. We'll have to wait and see.

The guy is a footballing genius and the best out and out striker since Jurgen. I think the fact we are in the position we are currently in is the main reason for this speculation as there were always many rumours if we didnt get into CL then he would be off. If he starts to find his form again i feel as a team we will improve a great deal. Juande had to give Bent and JD a chance against Boro and Bent scored so he was justified, but every time Berba gets left out there will be specualtion.

Spurs manager Ramos has made securing the future of Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov a top priority. (The Times)
Tottenham's under-pressure sporting director Damien Comolli will hold crisis talks over Berbatov's future. (Daily Mail)

I wonder what "crisis talks" are like? I picture Berb running around screaming "Help! Help! I'm on fire!" while Comolli waves his arms shouting "Out of the building! It's an earthquake!" and the agent slaps his head manically yelling "Tsunami! Tsunami!"

Now that's what I would call a crisis. After that, discussing a football contract sounds quite dull.

Being a conspiracy theorist I believe that Berbatov has actually been gone since we agreed to give him a pay rise without extending his contract. He is actually a Man Utd player on a seasons loan to us. Levy thought that he would have Enics stake sold before next season, when Berbatov actaully goes, and would not have to deal with the anger from the fans at WHL.

Looking at Berbs this season and bearing in mind he usually starts matches his record isn’t great, so far he is tied as our 6th highest goal scorer behind Robbie Keane on 9 and Defoe, Bent, Bale & Kaboul all on 3 goals and level with Malbranque & Pascal Chimbonda on 2.
Only Keano, Chimbonda, Steed and Zokora have had more appearances this season so he clearly isn’t pulling his weight.

He's going to have to go some to convince anybody that he's worth a £28m buy out (if that's true).

Would now be a good time to remind everyone of what Daniel Levy wrote in the Man City programme on May 13 this year?

In case anyone is under the impression that we are a selling club, I should like to once again stress the policy and position of this club - we are building for the future - we are NOT a selling club,

There is a world of difference between a player who has a short period left on his contract and could look to leave on a free transfer, and a player with a long contract. If, as we do, you have players on long contracts and the finances of the club are strong, you have no need to sell.

I am happy for anyone to judge this club by who we sell and who we don't. Our ability to attract and retain top class players is key to our ambition to compete at the highest level - regularly in Europe and with our sights set on Champions League qualification.

Left himself enough 'wriggle room' to say "Ah but if a player WANTS to leave we can't keep him".

But I don't think many will see it that way.

I share said theory. Berb has been a man utd player elect since July and only our early season hype and hope at starting well enough to be a serious top 4 contender, stopped the board going through with it in the summer.

Stevenqoz & tRiKs,

Are you actually saying that it is the board's plan to sell Dimitar Berbatov? Do you really believe that they want to sell him?

They aren't.

Besides, there is no club in the word that would pay 28m for a striker who has scored only 2 goals for 3 months. 20 mill is more realistic and only Man U and Liverpool (where Voronon who was 2 classes under Berbatov at Bayer scores goals) would give the money. Barca are interested too but they consider to offer Gudjonssen for Berbatov and (5-6 mill) cash. Juve want Berbatov too, but they would offer no more than 16m.

Maybe Spurs bosses would be reluctant to accept an offer under 22m but if Berbatov does not hit his form till the summer then he may leave for 10m.

Ah, Berbati passing opinion as fact again.

Berbatov's form has been poor, because the team has been poor. As a striker you need service, and Berbatov just isn't getting it. It's all media bollocks, i'm sure.

You are partly right about his poor form, mate. But it's an indisputable fact that Berbatov's manager is in London to discuss his future at Spurs. And is almost 100 % true that no club will offer for Berbs 28m, unless he scores 10 goals in the next 7-8 games.

Neither is Keano but he's scored 9 goals and Berbs had more service than Defoe and Bent yet they've both scored more goals han him as have Kaboul & Bale.

I'm not slagging him off and I don't want him to leave but he is poor this season and it can't all be put down to the team's form.

don't think we will sell him on cheap.

I'm he can score a lot of goals for top team in the world as they would provide him a lot of decent crosses and services, but our problem is our style of play and current Mid. line means the strikers needs to work a lot to score goals as inconsisent performer on right & not natural left sided player on the other side. so, I'm sure Berbatov worth not less than £30-35m.

How many goals can Berbatov, Keane & Bent can score if we have players like Beckham, Ronaldo & Robbin in our team ?

It's the old story isn't it - if he wants to go and we can £28m for him - then he will and should go - however we should only let him go in Jan if we get a replacement in Jan - because it would be as crazy just to rely on Bent as it would have been to rely just on Berbs - which is why we bought Bent
The 4th striker doesn't have to be great - could even be a loan deal - but we need someone in before selling berbatov

I'm still wondering when we're going to unmask this imposter strolling around pretending to be Berba. Scooby Doo style, it'll turn out that Berbatov has been tied up in the basement for the last 3 months.

28m? Not going to happen. If the club is stubborn thinks that's fair value and he continues to underperform, he'll be worth less than 20m when he moves on in the summer. If Levy persists in playing hardball he'll leave on a free. Levy's choice.

Of course all this might be bollocks and he wants to stay, but I don't think he has the patience anymore to wait for Wendy to sort out the midfield.

his attitude and body langague has been very poor..he has been strutting around like he is owed something i would rather have players at our club when the chips are down you can count on them..he will take that attitude to wherever he goes next..imo he thinks he's big time and that can have a negative affect in the dressing room.....
