Just so you know Bethnal Green overground isn't really on a main road like Bethnal Green underground is so you may need to walk to Hackney Road to get a cab.

OK. Are there normally queues at the WHL station after games, or can I rely on taking the 15:47-train from WHL?

I'd probably consider heading for Stratford quickest way possible, and catch the DLR to City.
I think you'll be fine if you have your wits about you.

I usually walk to Bruce Grove (next station towards Bethnal Green). It is a 15 minute walk from the stadium, straight down 1 road. Usually this has been quicker for me that queuing at WHL. There are never any queues at Bruce Grove.

If you leave the stadium right on full time (maybe watch the last minute or two on the screens in the concourse), you will be at Bruce Grove station by about 3:45. Therefore you will be able to catch the 15:47 from WHL (which will be about the 15:50 at Bruce Grove).

Thank you! Good advice! But, are Spurs-supporters lazy? Strange that there`s no queue at Bruce Grove? Anyway. Thanx. Will follow your advice!

to get to Stratford would you need to go via Northumberland P

now I haven't jumped on a train since 1999 and yes WHL used to have a massive cue, but the downside might be by time the train reaches Bruce Grove how full is the train?

if you want to walk an extra 10 mins to Tottenham Hale Stn I believe they have a taxi rank there (if no taxis a train to Stratford), or walk down to Northumberland Park stn, 1 train stop to Tottenham Hale, but would be gutting to get off and no taxi's.

such a shame you couldn't of got a flight too and from Stansted

That's usually what I do too. But I'm a fast walker, and I don't mind the extra distance. It's true that there is not queue into the station, however once on the platform, one might need to fight one's way onto a train. Trains are often crowded, and many of them are ignorant people who can't be arsed to move further down each carriage to make room.

The English love queueing and hate breaking a sweat unnecessary :p

Bruce Grove is easy enough to find, walk south along the high street. (When looking in the direction you are heading, the stadium should be on your left hand side of the street. Walk along, distancing your self from the stadium straight behind you). Walk straight ahead, no turns. Just when you think you might have walked too far and passed the station, it will be on your right, on a corner of an intersection. It's a small and rather humble station, you might even mistake it for being closed.

Yes, that was my thought too. If there's a long queue at WHL st, it probably means that the train is packed. Anyway, If necessary, I think we've got time to wait for the next train too. Then we can take a cab from Liverpool street st, which I'll guess will be the fastest option from there to City airport on a sunday evening..? But, if our train nr 2 at Bruce Grove is full too.. Then we're a little fucked..

What I think you might be forgetting, is that taxis run as part of the general London traffic. The underground and various light railway systems have the advantage of running on separate systems from the road network. That might make them superior alternatives even if it seems like a hassle to find the right station entrance and navigate the changes. The last thing you' want to do in London when in a rush is to be stuck in a cab. Not saying I KNOW it will happen, but it's a fair consideration to make.

And as far as full trains go, at Bruce Grove you won't have any problems if you are politely assertive enough, and prepared to think on your feet.

Another "tidstyv" as you Norwegians call it is the time you spend from leaving your seat inside the stadium to getting through the gates on the ground. If your seats are inconveniently positioned in relation to the nearest exit from the stands, you will lose valuable time. Getting ahead of that initial queue is probably decisive.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry. I think you have just about enough margins on your side. City isn't the most busy London airport, and if you have the option of online check in, I think you can make it.

Yes, but rush and traffic jam on the road from Liverpool street st to City airport on a sunday evening, is that likely and typical?

London traffic is a fudging mess all the time.
Put it this way, if travelling by car, you will always face a standstill somewhere a long the way. There's no question about it.
The question is for how long you are stuck, and if you are a person who would prefer to wait it out when the taxi can't move, or to navigate the public transport.

City Airport is nice and small so you will be fine getting there only an hour before you leave (if you don't have baggage to check in)

as I said Tottenham Hale Stn has a taxi rank, and going from there to City airport will be a lot quicker than a taxi from Liverpool St. Tottenham hale is far enough away from the ground

Yes, we`ll probably walk to Bruce Grove and take train from there to airport (via Liverpoll street stn). If the train is full, or we for some reasons get probems like the station being closed, queues etc., we`ll walk to Tottenham Hale and the taxi rank there. Think we`ll be fine.;)

I would walk to Northumberland Park get the train to Stratford then DLR to city airport shouldn't take more than an hour even with a bit of waiting time for trains.
