On Hugo, I've felt this for a long time but I don't think he is a good captain.

To me his is a bit boring tbh, he wouldn't motivate me and added to that he's either incredible (vs Man.U) or he has a brain fart (today and other games).

I wonder if we made PEH or Kane captain if that might change the dynamic of how we play etc.

Absolutely. A massive hammer on a tiny nail. I never agree with him being made captain but I guess after his World Cup exploits, it was a no-brainer at the time for Poch.

mate he is average personified there is very little between him and Davies apart from Davies is more agressive - he has no long term future at Tottenham he is not good enough - his defending for the second goal was dreadful
He kept some top defenders out of the Barcelona and France teams, so I'm happy to give him a few more chances.....mate.

It wasn't, get over it. It was piss weak goalkeeping.
If Wilson had nicked ball past Lloris and the exact same challenge happened lloris b off and free kick given.

Don't know why Lloris didn't just put his boot through true ball.

Barca got rid after a series of mistakes and poor performances - so far he is just average does nothing in games Davies is a better centre back and the mistake today was schoolboy defending apparently he has no future and the loan won't be made permanent and you can clearly see why pleased your giving him another chance cop out of a signing

It's horrible to lose football matches, especially on our own soil, and even worse, two in a row...but we may have to try and bite our tongues and wait for the major changes which are clearly needed, to actually happen.

Conte will be so pissed off tonight as we all are but if he meant what he said about having to work through another few windows to get what he wanted all along, I guess we have to trust him, but it's pretty obvious, we still have a very long way to go.

The question we're probably all asking is whether he really does have the stomach for a long fight.

I too am seriously cheesed off tonight for obvious reasons, but somehow, I'm nowhere near as angry as I was after that shambles at O/T. We showed a hundred times more intent and aggression in that first ten minutes than we did in the entire 90+ minutes on Wednesday, but Newcash were just too good and better organised, and physically stronger than us.

Still 3rd but losing ground rapidly.

Just home from the match.
As others have said I'm nowhere near as disappointed as I was after Man U.
I thought we played well today on the whole. We attacked and should have won imo.
But Dier and Lloris were just awful and full of mistakes and it cost us. We threw the game away. Newcastle had done very little until that balls up.
Bentancur was really good today. Son and Kane were better and unlucky not to get a few more goals.
Bissouma had a good game as did Skipp imo.
But defensively that was poor.
Sess was pants. Got in some really good positions, but nothing and so weak when defending.
Emerson was ok but not much attacking end product as usual. Lenglet was ok but poor for the second goal. Dier was really poor. From nearly smacking it into the back of his own net, booting off the pitch, giving the ball away, just mistake after mistake. And with Sanchez next to him it was just shite and cost us 3 points.
However, attacking wise, best for a while imo.

Just got back too and that is how I saw it too. Sess really annoyed me. We had the chances and deserved to score more which could have resulted in a win. Massive credit to Newcastle, they will think they deserved the win and given their desire it's difficult to argue. At least there were some positives to this match, unlike Man U.

Can anyone remember when we were actually fun to watch? It feels a very long time ago. I have vague memories of us playing proper football under Poch but its fading fast. We've just endured so much sludge over the last three or four years. Latter day Poch, Jose, NES and now this. My patience is wearing very thin.
I've felt the same for the longest time. Losing isn't ever the issue it's just been the turgid boring football we put out week after week. During the final ten games of last season everything seemed to click. Free flowing football scoring for fun..... since then we just seem to be stuck in 2nd gear. I'd hoped we'd start this season with that brand of football..... I guess preseason was s precursor after all.

Regards training, if they do defence v attack to get our defenders used to being pressed high - well, our attack do not press high - so training must be easy for the defenders, and somewhat of a wake up call come match day.

It was a foul, no doubt. I remember Wilson and Newcastle getting a foul for obstruction similar to that a couple of years ago at ours and they scored from the free kick. No pundits mentioned it as a soft call then as I remember. I do wonder if VAR listen to coms and get influenced by what they say and try and line the calls up with that as Carragher was itching for it to be allowed.

Jamie Carragher should be a member on here. He seems to hate Emerson Royal.

What did Lenglet do that was so bad that everyone seemingly wants him gone already?
Not sure.

if I am being critical I think he looked flat footed for the second goal but generally he looks fine just not elite.

Also I would like him to come forward with the ball a bit more.
Ok so who from the starting 11 of Newcastle would make our starting 11?
Trippier, Botman and Bruno G.

2nd goal.

You’re supposed to close the space and then stay close to the attacker to block the shot/tackle.

Lenglet stood off the attacker and then lunged in letting him skip past.

School boy 101 mistake.

Almiron got a run at him due to Lloris dreadful distribution and Sessegnon weakness. Lenglet was caught flat footed which can happen when a player is going at full tilt, but he tried to push Almiron wide which is all he could do. Lloris went to ground when he should have stood up. It was a combination of errors. Watch it again from 1.50.

Watch it again in the previous post. He was hung out to dry by Lloris and Sessegnon.

spot on. Sess should have taken the card and not been so pathetic and weak.

2 takes from that game:

1) Real cracks are starting to show in the squads confidence. Again.

2) Newcastle Arabia are on the brink of overtaking quite a few clubs. Another season and it'll be just one more club we can't keep up with.

Difficult to give a shit anymore.
