What about the stats that say he’s earned us far more points than he’s lost us?

he makes high profile blunders but over time we are better with him on the side. Should we just react to one or two games or try to judge him over a longer period of time?

the bigger problem is our inability to play through opponents’ high presses effectively. It causes mistakes and puts unnecessary pressure on our defenders too often. Until we address that issue, we’ll be moaning about goalkeeper errors even though it’s not why we are shit.
Oh yea Hugo isn't our biggest problem no way, I never said that he was but I don't rate him as a captain.

Wow. Outside of the Chelsea game - which we barely passed - we have failed every single big test this season.
And what's worse is it felt absolutely inevitable in all of those games because we went in determined not to leave our half. We clearly had a gameplan to park the bus and just hit those teams on the break. I don't look at our squad and see that kind of strategy as being the best way to get the maximum out of our players. Our defence look mentally all over the place because of the burden placed on them. The midfield look overworked because they're having to basically play midfield and compensate for dreadful wingbacks both defensively and offensively, as well as getting forward and making third man runs. Its just too much. Kane and Son look absolutely shattered and isolated. Its never going to happen but I'd prefer a switch to a 4-2-3-1 or some variation of it. Get Son cutting in from the left, whoever's fit cutting in from the right. You could stick Bentancur in the 10. It would take some of the burden off of our wingbacks by making them fullbacks. By going 4 at the back we'd get an extra man in midfield which would help us build up further away from our own goal. Kane would also prosper with more bodies around him. But as I say, its definitely not going to happen. We're going to persevere with this nonsense until gawd knows when. Conte is far too stubborn to change and its going to take at least another three or four windows to replace all of our fullbacks as well as Kane , Dier, Lloris and probably by that stage Son, PEH and Davies.

I'm just not into this. Not into it at all. Conte's got a great record but he's not for me.

Looking to the transfer window for 6 or 7 top class players is a joke. We just need to stop being so cautious. We're playing 8 defensive-minded players in a 532 at home. You could even make just one change, Spence for Royal, and you'd see an immediate difference because of that outlet to run the ball higher upfield.

If we "need" 6 new first team players to make this 'system work, then I'd prefer we chucked the system instead.

I don't know what to say about Hugo.

On Wednesday, he saved our arses from getting a real hiding by bringing out 4 or 5 absolute 'worldies'.

Today, he cost us at least one of their goals and arguably, both.
I think it's because in the first example he's being asked to save shots - something at which he is still one of the best in the league. In the second he's being asked to play sweeper keeper/start an attack - one thing that he was last fairly decent at 7 or 8 years ago (sweeper), and another at which he has consistently been one of the weakest in the league since he came here (distribution).

I understand that if our system is to work properly the keeper needs to be at least proficient with the ball at his feet, but sometimes he just needs to understand that the best place for the ball is either aimed towards Kane's head, or as far into the stands as he can get it. Why on earth he took a touch for the first goal I don't know. No one would have complained if he'd put the ball in the top tier.

Indeed, look at Newcastle — Howe is getting the best out of former dross like Almiron, Joelinton etc. they’ve added quality but they still have Dan burn and Schar at CB…

Not taking anything away from our awful display, but the PL really needs to do something with timewasting in games when you have absolute twat referees that can not do anything themselves.

i would love to see a hard line that when ref blows for a freekick, if the other team as much as touches the ball in any way, the card should come immediately. Also when they start so ealy, give the card in the 60th min, then you stop the wasting (from goalies for the rest of the game) instead they always give it in the 85th min. would love to see how many minutes the ball was in play that second half

This isn’t gonna be a critique on how we played but just a tale of my trip today. Left Bristol at 1, got to the stadium at around 3:30. A lovely afternoon, bought 4 cans of neck oil in Tesco and sat outside the south stand and drank them accompanied by a few roll ups. Got into the stadium at just a touch past 4. Got to my seat, loving the passion but had a foreboding feeling in my gut. I was guessing it was just the fact that every time I make the long journey up we’ve been shit. 20 mins in, we’ve been ok, Dier has made a few ricketts. Bit worried. Then it all comes crashing down and I realise that, rather than hoping we’ll be ok, I’m wondering if it’s better for me to leave about 2 mins before full time to make sure I catch my train. Almerion scores and the absolute wasteland of Dier and Lloris convince me to go get a drink in the south stand outside area. I make a roll up and buy two neck oils hoping that I’ll be going back into see a revival that would make Elvis blush. Whilst getting my two beers, I hear a thunderous clap. I’m thinking “fuck me is gazza back?” But no. It was the most horrific storm I’ve ever been a part of. Bins were flying everywhere, burgers were instantly changed back into cow and beers were filling back up with water quicker than you could drink them. My roll up was disinterested in being smoked cos it had its trunks on so I did the only thing I could do. I ran. I ran like fuck towards the toilets. Fellow spurs fans were urging me to make it whilst laughing. Suddenly the result wasn’t so bad, I mean, will I live? Will I make that toilet? I feel like I’m drowning! My £6.59 beer suddenly had more water in it than originally intended. I made it. We were all so relieved that we survived the famous hurricane of 22. I made a wet roll up, people left, I was on my own. I walked back to seven sisters and got my train back to Bristol. Can’t wait to come up for the Liverpool game.

Very disappointing you can’t legislate for mistakes. Bring back Boris (sorry wrong thread).

Eric Dier has been awful lately.
I hate to pick on him as he’s a likable intelligent guy but he’s simply not good enough for a team wanting to contend for honors. His reaction time is too slow and his mental fragility means that when things go wrong or he’s put under pressure he tends to freeze like a deer in the headlights. In the 2 big games of this week he’s had a hand in 3 of the 4 goals we’ve conceded.

Taking off the Spurs tinted glasses. Man u and Newcastle both looked like better teams than us

we started with royal and sessegnon as wing backs. Nothing personal but I'd say both are about the standard of a bottom half of the table team. How on earth are we going to be competing with the very best when that's the players we have in a key position for conte?

We are painfully passive.

As much as Kane and Son are both absolute legends, having them both in the team I think rules out us playing a high press. Kane isn't physically able to do that. One of Sonny's world class skills is avoiding being anywhere near a 50-50 tackle.

I think we are very much in "race for fourth" territory. But in big danger of falling out this season.
Both looked much better

So did Brighton

The usual overreaction to a defeat. We played OK today. Probably better than we have in some of our wins this season. But we were up against a decent well drilled well motivated side.

Conte is not a disaster based on today, and the squad don't all need upgrading based on today. If we got in a top class CB and AM next window, we'll be just fine. Rest of the squad is good enough for top four (but not higher obviously).

That goofy fuck Pope is an utter prick. Fist pumping towards us at the final whistle. Hope he breaks an arm so he can’t go to the World Cup..
