Not the most memorable game but we’re in the hat for the next round and that’s all that counts.
Disappointing and baffling that Spence didn’t get a start. Nothing against Emerson but against a League 1 team who were almost certainly going to sit back in a low block did we need a defensive RB?
Every time we have met in the FA Cup one has gone in to win it.
Brought back memories of us winning down there in ‘91. When that cross came in Gazza was determined it was his ball. Great goal and a great day out.

Moved from our Season tickets high in the South the posh middle of the South today. Yeah... it's um... very polite round those parts. No much singing or fun but... very polite.

Anyway job done and congrats to the Pompey fans who did themselves proud all day (and on the tube home).
I’m row 46 was pretty quiet but not many season ticket holders were there

The flip side to that is - do we need a speed merchant against a team that was going to sit deep?

Like Son, I expect that Spence’s best games in the future will be against more attacking teams where he can exploit his pace down the flank.

He’s not only our quickest RWB he is also our best dribbler at RWB. The latter could have been useful in a team (by Conte’s own admission) that isn’t very good in 1 on 1 situations.

The scoreline often doesn't reflect the game, but 72% possession, 18 shots and 9 corners does. Pompey barely got out of their half. We are in poor form and played our second string bar Kane and Son, against a team who turned up to camp and not concede. If we'd been sharper after the goal we'd have scored more, but we were sloppy and missing our most creative players.

We absolutely brushed them aside. There was zero threat that we wouldn't win today except our own struggle to finish chances.

Next week will be telling indeed, today was irrelevant to our current position/form/outlook. It was just a game to get won and done.
I think it will have a bearing on next week. It's indicative of our game in general. Maybe I'm overly negative and not seeing the bigger picture I guess.

You know which player would have suited contes style perfectly as a back up striker was Llorente . I’m amazed we haven’t tried to sign that type of player as a back up , we pretty much always go wide looking to whip the ball in and a tall imposing striker , good in the air type player would suit this system down to the ground . Did Conte have Dzeko at Inter ?

I know we've got a tough January but seeing todays draw i hope we go stronger than we did yesterday. Real chance to go all the way.

Nice to see Villa showing today that they are just as useless as us when faced with 6 at the back vs Stevenage. At least we got through.
good ebening. Unai.
