We played a 2nd string team, excepting Kane and Son, against a team that stayed deep and organized.

What exactly were you expecting?
You believe that was a 2nd string team ? Sanchez, Emerson, Sessegnon, Skipp all have over 30 years appearsnce at PL level.

We should be dispatching teams like pompey with relative ease... especially at home.

Only Kane and Son would be in our best XI when everyone is healthy. And maybe not even Son.

That is the textbook definition of 2nd string.

The point of course, is that people like you would have decided he wasn't good enough then too. Skipp was literally out best midfielder before his injury and some of us have watched him throughout his journey through Spurs and every England youth team.

But of course, you write him off when he's trying to get form back after being injured for almost a year.

Was at the game. Both the crowd and the players were a bit flat, Sarr and Gil aside. Mostly 6/10s but the important bit is that we avoid a replay, kept a clean sheet, and did so having only used 2.5 first team players.

Also Kane has set himself up for some serious record breaking against the scum next week.

Roll on the NLD!

Depends how you look at it, with the exception of the Palace 2nd half we’ve been seriously lacking creativity and shot shy way too often this season. We had a chance to express ourselves today but it was a return being poor in the final third again. To compound matters we’ve got a massive game against Arsenal next weekend and whereas they’re in terrific form, we’re not. It’s one game we don’t want to lose under any circumstances.
Our performance against Arsenal will be very telling.

To be fair though even last season we looked flat before Kulusevski and Bentancur joined. Getting those back, plus Richarlison not long after will add a lot more.

Sorry I beg to differ. If he can't see, then he should not play. There are other young players who are trying to get into the team and there is no reason for you to get aggressive here.
Not being aggressive just think telling a player to ‘sort himself out’ is a bit harsh when he’s playing in pain and in frustration because he’s had a fractured eye socket and is having to play with a mask on which is strongly effecting his vision and performances but because of injuries etc we are having to play him and he’s trying ? every game as he always has done from us.

If you’d just left it at Sonny’s performances have been a bit under par and perhaps Conte could consider some alternatives (not that we have any fit and available right now), that would’ve been fine but so say ‘he needs to sort himself out‘ i feel is totally disrespectful to a player who has been so so loyal to us for so many years and to one who is trying his best for the team in a difficult situation due to his mask that if he didn’t wear would be a significant risk to his health and vision.

Mabye think about the way you word your criticism next time if you don’t like being called out on it ❤️??

Also we got the win and so let’s focus on the positives.

Not a great game but a win and we're in the next round so it can't be all bad. I have been impressed with Gil in the last two matches and he does offer something different and it's almost like a new signing. Still waiting for Sarr to offer the same improvement but it's early days for him yet.

None of the players you’ve mentioned are 1st choice so yes that is the definition of 2nd string team ;)

We lack creativity at wing back, CM and up front as Gil is still raw, we have no Kulu or Bentancur and Son is playing with restricted vision.

Never going to be an easy game where we just dispatch them with ease, these lower league sides come and set up well and defend for their lives.

That being said we totally dominated possession and had I think 18 shots to 3 so it was fairly comfortable overall.

I think this will be an issue.
Plenty of our fans seem to want our home grown players gone.

Not sure who will replace them.
We only have Harvey White coming through that might need to be registered next season.
Feels like we are going to have to splash out on some homegrown players somewhere down the line. I can't think of many English players that Conte would want to take on that aren't already at top clubs.

Harrison at Leeds maybe could be a good wing back option if Sess is moved on. Edwards being linked solves another but most of our better prospects look to be at least a couple of years off being ready to play in the league.

It showed me that unfortunately Sess ain't going to be the answer for us. Same goes for Tanganga, I'm afraid.

I think that's about right. I'm not sure Tanganga was ever going to make it with us; that one match vs Ronaldo bought him a couple of seasons. Sess though, just don't know what happened. Really thought he was going to grow into a great WB. He got good support from the fans after he was subbed and walked round ther touchline, but it just seemed like it was more out of pity and sympathy than anything else.

All ive said is i dont think hes quite at the grade for a club who should be shooting for top 4 ( preferably higher), and evaluating our squad particularly given the formation we play, i struggle to see where he gets his minutes so yes i think its going to be difficult for him to establish himself in our line up. If he does then ill be as happy as anyone.

But lets get off the high horse of being such a good supporter its not like youve not been critical of players team im sure.

Couple of Post game comments from Stellini:

Which of the young players impressed you most?

Not one player in particular because young player, Skippy and Pape, they are so important in our rotation, because last season and the start of this season we used Rodrigo and Pierre a lot and we need reliable players. Also if they're young it's important that we give minutes and rotation and it's a different choice. They were so good today, they moved a lot, they move the ball and I think Pape Sarr, Skippy and Gil they were all so good today.

How confident are you that Bentancur, Kulusevski and Richarlison will be fit to face Arsenal?

Well, not for all the players we are so confident but we are confident we'll recover someone.

(Sounds like maybe just Kulusevski or Bentancur for Arsenal)

The guy is playing with a bloody mask on mate and can barely see, lay off him. Sort himself out my arse, he’s trying his best.
