That’s Two defensive wing backs
Jesus Christ
Do hope they push Skipp forward more as a result.

Struggled when he first came back from injury, but looking at his intent against Preston, more of that would be nice.

Hopefully we open enough room for the front 3, but we have to see more from Kulusevski today.

City at Home is completely different to West Ham at Home, where WE need to take the game to them.

Today is going to be about initiative. If we give it to West ham they can hurt us - despite their league position they aren't a terrible side, and take into account that they always raise their game against us.

Don’t think it’s too bad the team, maybe put Porro for Emerson but don’t think there’s much else that can be changed.

Beyond being brave and playing Danjuma at LWB I don’t see what other changes we could have made. Porro had a debut to forget whereas Emerson has put in a few decent performances of late. Perisic has been poor and we’ve only Davies who can play there in Sessegnon’s absence. Central midfield could have been any of Hojbjerg, Skipp or Sarr. Even if we had changed to a 433, we wouldn’t have had anyone who could have come on for any of the 3 central midfielders. One more injury and we’re knackered.

Not bad! With all our wealth of attacking power.... and attack is where really our strengths are not defence.... we are starting.... at home.... against relgation fodder.... with 5 defenders.... and 2 defensive midfielders.... I LIKE IT!

This risk averse attitude is what unfortunately holds us & Conte back, but I see where you’re coming from.

I could be wrong on this (I am) but I think this could be tactically fascinating because we have Lenglet and Romero who are both quite progressive in their defending having more defensively minded wing backs next to them. So potentially (remember this won't happen in reality) instead of a flat 3 at the back, we have the centrally deep central CB, the wingbacks slightly more forward than him and then you have the two CB's either side furthest forward in the 5 which can give you 4 in midfield and both Romero and in particularly Lenglet, do have a pass on them.

A different variance on this was Sheffield United who had overlapping CB's who would go wide. Now I do think both Lenglet and Romero can do that and maybe that's what we will see, this would be my preference (we won't) but I suspect it'll be more central if it happens (it won't).

This could be the tactical evolution we were yearning for, alright yes the time for it was 6 months ago and not as we've just signed the 40 mill wingback who can do the role Conte wanted all along, but still.

I'd say smart money is on keeping things as tight as possible and then going strong late on with attacking wing backs.

I reckon he's been parked there to counter Bowen. You can expect Davies to get a least one yellow card, but if he successfully stifles Bowen, he will cut off what has been West Ham's main line of supply.
I think he’ll contribute to successfully stifling the creativity we have in the team, which is next to zero. I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a back 4 with all our attacking players on the pitch at all but I don’t believe he can play that position well anymore. I guess we’ll find out!
