Isn’t Aurier injured? He had one of those sleeves on his calf to speed up recovery in a picture on Instagram.

Pretty much forced to go with:

Lloris
Aurier Sanchez Vertonghen Davies
Dier Dembele
Eriksen Alli Son
Kane

This is pretty much our best team at the moment. We need to play that front four, can't afford to go into such a game without our best attacking/creative players.

I note some are going for three at the back whilst others choose a back four. My question is what is the thinking behind either formation against this particular opponent?

There's no thinking behind it. You just cram all your favourite players in to whatever formation is fashionable at the moment. This manager lark is a doddle.

My thoughts are they will be going with a front 3 of Alexis Lukaku Martial/Rashford so will need the extra Cb to counter it.

I would probably go with a midfield 4 of Dier, Dembele, Wanyama & Sissoko purely so I can say I was witness to the great SC meltdown of January 2018...it would be one for the grandkids I tell ya.

Have a thought for those of us who will have to watch the game. It's bad enough watching Mourinho teams with their negative tactics but to see us fielding a completely non flair side as we did on Saturday would make water boarding seem like fun

Bad time to play them. Our lads seem to be playing as if their feet are in cement of late.

I’m taking a very lenient view of how we’ve played the last couple weeks. There’s been a virus of some sort (maybe even the flu) going around the club, so it would stand to reason that players have been lethargic. Nevermind the atrocious conditions on the pitch in those games.

Hopefully we’ve recovered enough as a whole to put out a fit and ready side this weekend...

have to go three at the back in this game to give extra protection to Aurier/Trippier especially against Martial`s pace...
352 or 343 is my preferred formation

I'd put Toby straight back into team if he's available. These next games are far too important to wait. Wanyama and Dembele have to start against Liverpool and really not sure if either of them can play 3 times in week right now. Guessing Aurier is out.

Lloris
Trippier Toby Sanchez Jan Davies
Dier
Dele Eriksen Son
Kane

Vorm, Rose, Foyth, Wanyama, Dembele, Lamela, Llorente

3 at the back is a mistake against this lot. Recall them getting behind our wing backs too easily iirc

Aurier, especially, tends to have a somewhat casual approach to tracking back at times - I'm sure Poch's working on it - and if he's fit he'll play.

Imo the key to this game is not overexposing our channels and trying to gaining control of the midfield (likely up against Pogba and matic).

United fight like dogs for a full 90, it's always a tough, tough game against them.

This is one game where we need the best version of Dele especially, and I don't just mean in terms of attacking thread. We need the Dele that gets the ball in central midfield and drives at their defence, the Dele who will get into a physical battle with Pogba, the Dele that will do everything in his power to be the best player on the pitch. With that Dele, we win this game.

Agree with that...that Dele seems to have been AWOL since the Madrid game though
