Vertonghen and/or Wimmer should be ready, but if not, I agree with others here that if we want the best talent on the field, then it's:

Lloris
Walker Dier Alderweireld Rose
Wanyama Alli
Lamela Kane Eriksen
Janssen
Honestly if we played that against Everton, the scoreline at the end could be something crazy like 5-2/5-3

I hope Dier and Wanyama are trying to find out if Lukaku's stitches are in his right or left heel.

Even though Dier and Wanyama is the same type of player, this is Everton away, and in "big" away games like this, we should be starting both of them. Mason don't have the level and Winks none experience.

Everton have a decent side, they were pretty much ruined last season by Martinez' ineptitude. Don't think they need major tweaking, just need a manager to get the players playing to their full potential.
I like to call the ineptitude, AVB syndrome. Everton only need a LCB due to Jagielka's age and a LWF because Mirallas in the most inconsistant player in the league behind Berahino.

Wouldn't call Dier and Wanyama alike at all.

Lamela--Vince---Eriksen-.-----------
Kane

Vorm, Trippier, Verts, Mason, Winks, Onomah, Alli

Just see that as an attacking 4 before anyone shits themselves. Dier and Wanyama is pretty turgid so I would want extra threat up field with vince and kane both on, swapping there throughout.

Why would you drop Alli??

Man I've missed a think tank team lol

No doubt Winks has had the better of the pre season and clearly has a big future here, I can't see Poch starting him over Mason for this one. For all of the criticism of Mason, much of which is deserved, the manager obviously rates what he brings to the side and has started with him in CM for several games now of pre season.

Provided that it's an away tie to a team who always give us tough games, and we have question marks over who will be in CB and I can't see him throwing in another youth player to start the season. I would expect Winks to be one of the first subs on, depending on how the game goes of course, with a view to seriously breaking into the side over the coming weeks/months.

Lloris
Walker - C.Vickers - Alderweireld - Rose
Wanyama - Dier
Lamela - Alli - Eriksen
Kane

subs. Vorm, Trippier, Davies, Mason, Winks, Edwards, Janssen

Don't want to throw a half fit centre back in there,
build on what we've seen in pre season.

Got to be:

Lloris

Walker
Toby
Jan/Kev/CCV
Rose

Wanyama
Dier

Lamela
Alli
Eriksen

Kane

If Wanyama can't make the team when one of our first choice CM's is out I'm sure he'd be questioning it, and rightly so.

Goodison is a tough place to go anyway so off the ball we'll need to be right at it, and disciplined. They're a pretty physical side anyway.
This is the best way to put it. Least disruption. If Wanyama doesn't step in for Dembele then what was he bought for. And Verts, Wimmer, CCV in that order depending on fitness

Like your team. Prefer a 2-5/3-5 scoreline if I'm being honest..

Although I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see Trippier in for Walker and Dier instead of CCV in defence, with Winks coming in to midfield.

I'd go with that. Winks has been outstanding in pre season and looks the part. He dictated the tempo and showed a bit of everything whereas Mason looked very rusty. Also think CCV needs to be introduced a bit carefully and Everton away on the first day of the season isn't the right setting. I think this scenario was one of the main reasons Wanyama was brought in to cover Dier.

I think with the way Spurs played in the 2nd half against Inter, you have to start both Kane and Janssen. Just drop Alli deeper.
I also think if we play Dier next to Wanyama in midfield we will be too defensive, not enough creativity, hence Alli should play deeper in Dembele's absence.
