No chance Poch picks CCV IF he doesn't think he's ready. Hopefully Wimmer is ready to play, if not then I can only see, as others have said, Davies or Dier filling in. Ideally we don't want to lose Dier from the middle as he is pretty much first name on the sheet at this stage.

Rest of the team really looks after itself.

Hugo
Walker Toby CB Rose
Dier Mason/Vic
Lamela Alli Eriksen
Kane

I'm excited now.

Early dominance to silence the noisy crowd and we should win it. We all know these cavemen love a good hard tackle or any sort of foul to cheer or appeal for as well so avoid as many of them as possible.

In defense I think it's a question of who's fittest from Wimmer and Jan.
I don't think Winks or CCV will be included in the starting 11 as I feel the pressure will be too much for them. Would be much easier for them to settle into the first team after a couple of substitute appearances, or starts against slightly worse opponents, because I reckon Everton will be a threat this season.
With Dembele missing the fixture through suspension, surely Wanyama is capable of stepping in for him if needed, he has shown in pre-season that he is sharp and that he knows what the gaffer wants from him.
Janssen has really impressed me with his work rate and his hunger to help the team win in pre-season. I kind of feel like he deserves his premier league debut but then again, Kane has proven for the past 2 years that he will score goals and can't see how he would not start this one. In my opinion this line-up should do the job at Goodison Park;

(4-2-3-1)
Lloris
Walker Toby Wimmer/Jan Rose
Dier Wanyama
Lamela Alli Eriksen
Kane

If we struggle to open up the defense, Janssen can come on to partner Kane upfront.
Feeling quite optimistic, COYS(y)

He is IMO probably the least good of all our senior defenders so "excellent" is pushing it for me. We should retrain him as a CB and sell him to Hull when Dawson retires. The idea of "defending fullback" is just another way to say that he is not suited for the modern game at a top level PL club.

I'm not exactly sure what you have against him, but you say "least good" as if it is a bad thing. He seriously pushes Rose for a starting spot and is better than Trippier for me and has more in his CV than Wimmer, although Wimmer played very well in Vertonghen's absence and has a case to start ahead of him.

This notion of whether a fullback is suited for the modern game at a top PL club kind of disgusts me. Davies is a good player who competes for a starting spot and offers a lot going forward. He's a smart player who may not be as physically gifted, but makes up for it with better positioning and technique than most players.

Great shout, everyone seems to have forgotten that Ben can play CH if both Verts and Wimmer are injured. Can see Poch picking him ahead of CCV and no way do I see Dier moved back from CM.

Ben Davies at CB against Lukaku?

Every single time Everton got the ball in wide positions, I suspect Lukaku would just position himself against Davies waiting for the cross to come in with a huge smile on his face.

I think there are matches where Davies could do a job at CB - he reads the game reasonably well. But not against a striker with the size and strength of Lukaku.

I'd prefer Davies to a debutante CCV or moving Dier out of midfield.

I would be surprised if Dier dosnt play defence IF Jan and Wimmer are still out. If that happens then it will be Mason and Vic in midfield. I would be very surprised if Poch picked Winks or CCV to start.

There's a leaked City CL squad that has John Stones listed on it so hopefully that makes our job easier on Saturday.

If CCV is not ready in Poc's eyes I would have expected him to try out something different in the last friendly, certainly towards the end if he hadnt seen anything of CCV to suggest he couldnt play in our opener.

Our natural expectation is to move experienced players in, especially in defence, when the first choice are not available. Great to have options with Dier and Wanyama that we didnt have last year but I wouldnt be surprised if CCV makes the starting 11 if Wimmer and Jan are not fit enough. The latter I dont expect to see for a couple of weeks.

I'm not that convinced by dier as a centre back to tell you the truth but I think it would be a baptism of fire for CCV putting him in against Lukaku so happy to put dier in there. Mind you it's not 100% that a motivated Lukaku is going to turn up is there?

We need to get some sort of result though Saturday to put the ghosts of the end of last season to bed. We really don't want that to drift into this season's campaign.

Okay, I can't remember that. Even so, it would be more logical to move Dier back - who has actually trained a lot of his career as centre back and played well for us there during his first season. Than to throw Davies in, who has never started a game for us at CB. In addition by Wanyama deputising in DM for Dier we won't be losing too much in midfield either.
I think the only debate here for the team is CB - I guess when I look at it I see Dier who was a CB modified to play DMF, Davis is a LB who plays LB (except for 20mins in an emergency), and finally we have a young CB talent in CCV and he did play most of pre season, so maybe he is the right choice. The Wimmer thing is strange, if he is not for sale and fit, I am not sure why he is not playing, and I would go with him and Toby, if not CCV and Toby

Everton Fan in Twitter :

Stones to City, Galloway to Newcastle, Jagielka not fit, Funes Mori with the positional awareness of a bumblebee. Spurs will eat us alive.
