You're right, there's no way he could ever cut it for a successful club.........oh wait!

World Cup
European Championship
U21 European Championship
U19 European Championship
Champions League
Europa League
2 x FA Cup
Copa del Rey

Isn't that more trophies than our entire squad has achieved collectively?

Before anyone says he has just been lucky to play in strong teams:

UEFA European Under-21 Championship Golden Player: 2011
UEFA European Under-21 Championship Bronze Boot: 2011
UEFA European Under-21 Championship Team of the Tournament: 2011
Chelsea Player of the Year: 2011–12, 2012–13
Premier League Player of the Month: October 2012
Premier League PFA Team of the Year: 2012–13

To be fair the bulk of those are not recent. I'd take Mata anno 2012/13 in a a heart beat but at the price he would demand I believe there are better achievable options currently

I don't think he should be one of our primary targets either, but some of the comments flying around are pretty harsh and inaccurate.

I'm not sure what's worse, the fact you think he's good or the fact you went to all that trouble to get that info.

Off the ball, is Mata actually worse than all of Chadli, Pritchard, N'Jie, Son and Mason? If not, he'd be a good addition to our squad, as he's certainly better than them on the ball. We won't be able to start Eriksen, Lamela and Alli every game...

I can see where you are coming from, and I would take him over all of those players you mentioned in the first 11. He is class on his day, but if we have a team who are doing disciplined pressing, could he do it? Mourinho thought not, can Poch get him to do it? I would be suprised. Player for player, I would say he is better than all our attackiing midfielders bar Eriksen, but in reality would he fit into the 'team' ethos, that is what I am getting at.

And although I would not say Son are Mason are not great off the ball, they are disciplined and keep their positions, one thing Mata struggles with is positoning, in fact I don't remember him ever being in the defensive third or even making a tackle in his career.
