Can I just add my piece to this debate?

Anyone who thinks that we should sell VdV because he is part of the problem, has got a fucking screw loose. That includes Harry, and I'm a Harry supporter aswell.

It's not rocket science. VDV playing behind a striker didn't work that well because our strikers were not good enough.

Playing 4-4-2 with two strikers didn't really work because our strikers were not good enough.

Play VDV behind a striker who is capable of more than just knocking the ball down with his head from the occasional cross/long ball, and you'll see better results and performances all round.

But it was the only thing that worked at all.

Ive never read so much crap.

So all of a sudden we are johnny big bollocks and we are too big for VDV. So this player who actually gives a shit about us is surpluss to requirements now?
He was our top scorer this year when our strikers misfired.
I dont see Chelsea offloading Lampard, I dont see Liverpool selling Gerrard. Inter wont be selling Snjieder, Barca wont be selling Iniesta. Man U never sold Scholes.
We are Tottenham and so we can carry on playing 442 we shall sell the one big world class player who raised our profile and get a substandard Premiership proven player to replace him.

Amazing, just amazing. What next lets sell Modric?

I'm not disputing that at all. But it was more a case of making the best of a bad situation. VDV himself has stressed the importance of getting a 20+ goals a season striker, and that's because he's seen up close the number of chances we create, and which he creates, but get wasted.

VDV will look even better when playing behind someone who knows where the goal is.

yes, but I think most are agreed that the uber striker we need infront of VDV is the solution...

It would help, but the midfield also takes some of the blame for me. They need to learn to go beyond VDV when he drops deep rather than sticking to their 20 yard radius.

no - i am simply saying that i think one of the major reasons our forwards have not scored this year is because of the way the team is set up to accomodate VDV

ok - you probably dont agree so why is it the forwards scored lots of goals prior to vdv? its just coincidence they have all become rubbish at the same time??
Defoe went missing in January 2010 long before VDV came.

This. Exactly. This is why I keep saying we need an upgrade on Jenas type of player and why Huddelstone is redundant.

Also the equalizer against Arsenal at home to make it 1 - 1. The 1st goal against Inter at home, the goals against Villa away.

I cannot believe people want to get rid. Why dont we get rid of Bale too. Stick Modric out on the left like we used to......geez

Hey, I'll take a 20 goal a season striker all day long, but as Brett has just said, this would be less of an issue if our midfielders chipped in more than a collective hand full of goals and assists as well.

With Drogba that would be lethal. Falcao too. Any striker with clever movement would be good enough.

I'd agree with that, but then Modric isn't going to get many playing as deep as he does...Sandro isn't either. Bale was doing well enough before he got injured. Which just leaves Lennon, as the potential weak link...and I'm not too sure we could get much better, especially as Young is off to United.

Exactly. Either of those two linking up with VDV in that formation would be superb. Personally I think it would bring the best out of all of our attacking players, because all of their hard work in the build-up wouldn't simply amount to a toe poke lauched 60 yards over the crossbar.
