Think we're getting Willian regardless if Bales leaving or not, and then only look at Lamela or an alternative if Madrid offer what we're asking.

Otherwise it will be Willian and Bale come end if the window in my opinion.

Yep just said the exact same thing. Our strategy is starting to become a little clearer IMO.

Downside being Lamela will have probably signed a new deal before the end of the window if our interest isnt concrete

Willian is a good player who would add something we're currently missing. Lamela is a future world superstar who would be a revelation for us and the Premier League (and make us a fortune in future transfer fees whatever we paid to get him).

Both would be nice obviously but given then choice and given the problems we're having with Bale, Lamela all day long for me.

Is Lamela actually available though? Willian clearly is so it might be a case of moving fast to sign him rather than risk missing out on both.

We need to bring in a big striker, hope that's on the agenda as well. Ade will be off and need a 'presence' option up front.

Not sure if I looked at an article correctly, Liverpool offered a 50% sell on fee if Willian moved on to another club in the future? Levy would not install that incentive at all.

With Franco in our ranks, we've got the best possible in IMO. He's already signed him once and knows his current contract details.

If we can get/want him, we will.

I just fear that we're being a bit premature with the Baldini worship. Didn't we have the same sort of thing when we first appointed Frank "I Discovered Ronaldo" Arnessen with his fabled black book of contacts?

What about if Madrid offer what we're asking on deadline day or close to it? Then the whole strategy is blown apart if we don't have time to get in a replacement. That is my worry.

I think its 50% of any profit they make on any future sale, so lets say they buy him for 30M, sell him for 40M, they will have to give Anzhi 5M, its not really as bad as it sounds.

Yeah, I saw that just after posting. I'm liking the strategy to, if our thinking is right, but just hope that if Madrid accept our demands it leaves us with enough time to get Lamela for example I.e not at 11pm on the last day of the transfer window

This where I think the Uncle Joes £50 million comes into play, it puts us in a position of strength. Levy said he made the mistake with the Berbatov deal so I guess he learnt from that.

Mine too, that is why we need to set a deadline to Madrid.

Or, another angle is, if the meeting Baldini had with Romas technical director (was it?) the other day, we have done already done the leg work, sorted out acceptable fees, wages etc before hand, and is just a case of knowing them demands and offering Roma and Lamela them for a speedy completion, who knows.

Has he? Has he really though? I still think his biggest weakness is thinking he is the smartest guy in the room when it comes to negotiating. Time will tell I guess.

With two weeks to go, this summer window could go from being one of the greatest in the club's history, to being another disappointment, leaving us with a tantalisingly good squad, but not enough balance in certain areas to really go blow for blow with the big boys.

Its a fair point. However I can't help but feel if Madrid wanted this done it would be happening by now, or at the very least very soon and the wheels would be well in motion.

I know its a huge amount of money no matter what and when/if the offer comes its bound to test Levy providing it isn't way off - but why havn't they acted yet?

Are they going to get the better of Levy through brinkmanship? Not for me. Do they believe a last minute offer way below what we want is going to tempt us? Again, not for me.

They'll know what we want, nothing is happening. I'm far from convinced this deal will happen this summer. Perhaps that's Levy's feeling as well at the moment.

Might explain why we are upping our efforts to get Willian now to.

There's no need to hope for anything from RM. they're at our mercy if they want Bale. He's not putting up a stink like Modric did. Spurs hold all 52 cards.
