I'm of the opinion that AVB wants Moutinho over Sahin, so until the deal with Porto is dead Sahin is only a backup option.

Agreed, Which shouldn't bother us as fans either as both are adequate players for our squad.

Moutinho obviously gets preference having worked under AVB before and thus more likely to fit into the new system and adapt to his position easier I'd presume? And he has publicly stated he would work under AVB again. Porto however are unlikely to budge much on his asking price which seems to be the main problem with this transfer.

Sahin is more of a gamble as he has stated his intention is to stay with RM but could prove to be the cheaper option/back-up if his mind can be persuaded.

Each to their own opinion :)

This avb system thing is annoying me, we shouldn't be buying players that fit into just one system, the system should change depending on who we play. Sahin would be perfect for us, real shame we aren't interested.

True but if we are likely to be playing 433 and 4231 (and its variations) and if AVB's assessment is that he is too slow for the Premiership (as previous poster says), then he's not for us. Of course AVB could be wrong, but think we have to trust him and make an assessment on the incoming player (assuming Modric is off of course)

What happens if mouts is too expensive and nuri ends up at arsenal or somewhere else whilst we wait on Porto?

I rather he buy the types of players that he knows will work in how he'll make us play than do what he did at Chelsea and try to accommodate the wrong players.

Also no idea what "Sahin would be perfect for us" means. Villas Boas is going to decide what "us" is. If he doesn't think he wants Sahin then clearly he's not perfect for us.

If AVB doesn't win today it will be grounds for his sacking.

/end panic

It's ONE ITK and it's ONE player, Sahin. Remember when 'Arry passed on Suarez and Cavani? AVB likes midfielders who have good movement as well as passing and dribbling. Modric has that. Moutinho has that. Sahin obviously does not in his opinion.

Also JJ is not 100% correct, something we forget sometimes. This whole Sahin thing I'm skeptical over because the deal went from 90% to not happening? That was a bit of bizarre ITK. And now since he has implied Sahin was that player I'm not sure what to believe on the Sahin deal.

But we need to chill. Let's allow the professionals to do their job.

But Moutinho would cost £25m-ish.... madness compared to Sahin for FREE, even if it is for a season!

If Arsenal sign Sahin on loan, they still have money for, say, a Cazorla, burning a hole in their pocket. Whereas if we spend £25m on Moutinho that's £25m less we can spend on, say, a Willian.

Sabin is not good enough for Real Madrid.. How can some here consider him better than modric?

I disagree with JJetset, Sahin is not world class. A very talented footballer but certainly not world class. I'm surprised AVB does not like him but will reserve judgement until I found out who the alternative signing is. I trust AVB's knowledge of the game compared to many on here who have not seen much of him.

It's funny that some criticise AVB for his decision against Sahin yet it's Jose Mourinho, one of the best managers in the world, who wants rid of him. They obviously don't think the world of him.

From what I've heard, it's the question marks over his fitness, namely his knee, which is the main concern and not his abilities as a footballer.

If that's the reason then that's fair enough. Whatever the reason is, neither manager seems to fancy him so i'll back their judgement over our fans any day. I still don't rate him as world class though.

I'd be very happy with Moutinho if we can get him, but it's especially disappointing that we don't seem to want Sahin because you'd have to think that it would free us up to use the £30m or whatever it is we get on Modric towards bringing in a couple more top players. It instead looks like we're going to have to spend the bulk of that on JM, who I don't believe is a better player than Sahin.

I'll trust AVB's opinion on this from a tactical standpoint, but economically speaking it's far from an ideal choice. I wouldn't be surprised if Levy is quite frustrated about it. Most other coaches would snatch your arms off for a player like that.

Like I said before, I think there is more to this than just AVB vetoing this deal and respect the powers that be to make the right choices for us going forward but I do fear this Modric saga will throw an unwanted spanner in the works and disrupt the system AVB wants to establish in the opening weeks.

How so? If he'd done an adie and said 100% then I could understand it.

As you know, 90% isn't 100%, it isn't a 'done deal' and whatever number JJ put on it, but it isn't an exact science, just his excitement talking and he made a mistake which he almost immediately put his hands up to.

As I said, I think what happened is that JJ got over excited, jumped the gun and then his 10% happened and smashed his back doors in. Hopefully he won't put a number on anything like that again.

but how can a deal get to 90% when he now says avb doesn't like him?

it would help if the sc itks were posting on sc rather than on twitter as it's not always clear what they're saying.

What I find hilarious about the "sahin is world class, how can avb not like him" nonsense is if sahin is so fantastic the why is mourinho saying he's hardly going to get a game and why are they busting a gut to get modric?

Lets all just calm down and wait and see what happens eh?
