All these people with the outlook of "if we dont sign a striker it will be a huge missed opportunity". Its not like Harry or Levy have just been sitting on their arses and not trying. If the players arent available, be it in january or summer, then we arent going to get them. Its not a simple case of identify -> bid -> buy. It doesnt work like that. We have to accept that as we dont have a huge stadium or a billionaire owner, we simply cannot afford to offert the wages that MOST big name strikers command without seriously damaging our finances. That means we have to rely on the players having an attitude to WANT to play for the club and have reasonable monetary demands (like VDV), as well as being allowed to leave by their clubs. This limits us considerably. Yes, i will be disappointed if we dont sign a striker. We are crying out for one. But if we dont, im not pinning the blame on either the best manager or chairman that weve had in decades.

I haven't apportioned any blame, I've just said I feel we're going to miss out, and this was our big opportunity to cement a place in the top 4. If we miss out this season, I think we could be left behind.

Then we should be identifying young potential forwards who will develop into something special, throwing them in and letting them develop with the benefit of our outstanding midfield.

Just trying to buy the same players we did in the summer and coming up with the same reasons that we fail - ie they're too expensive or they don't want to play for us - is really not acceptable.

If it's not working do something else, don't just keep trying the same strategy and then be surprised that it doesn't work. Isn't that the definition of insanity?

It's beyond a joke now.

Frank De Boer on Sky - the chances of Suarez moving to Liverpool is 50-50...i wonder if we are the other 50?!!

This Suarez talk is really boring now. We enquired right a tthe very start of the window but we have followed up that enquiry.Liverpool are the only teamw ith firm offers on the table. So unless Levy plans a super Raid on Ajax lastminute.com sytle then its not happening.Luis Suarez himself has been quoted saying he is extremly disappointed that Ajax have not compromised with liverpool for his transfer. LUIS SUAREZ wants to join Liverpool, and they know it. I'm just hoping we have a back up plan in place and the other targets are archievable.

You won't be saying that when we've sold Bale and Luka and replaced them with Stewart Downing and Scott Parker Eek

I honestly dont think that Luka, Bale or VDV will leave in the summer regardless of whether we got 4th or not.

The way they speak they seem very happy at the club and just watch Luka when we score...he jumps 6ft in the air...he loves it at the Lane.

I reckon they would give us at least one more season.

Look at Liverpool. Gerrard and Torres didnt leave when they missed out on the Champions League last season. Mind you having said that i guess that Torres wont be there next season.

Doesnt matter if we miss out - the year ends in 1 - and we will win it this year

Surely if they let Pav go as ITK suggests we MUST be bringing in another striker? As in guaranteed?

I said similar a few days back that this season was an opportunity to go onto another level. I do fear if something cannot be sealed in the next few days, that we will not have CL next year. I think, like others, this situation should have been sorted out in the summer and for whatever reason wasn't.

As long as we hold onto VDV, Luka and Baleo, then I still believe we have everything in place for another tilt next year.

I'm not writing this year off by any means, we are still right in there. Has anyone looked at Chelsea's run in? Looks incredibly tough, so they won't have it easy. Just feel that if things had gone right in the summer, we'd be sitting pretty in the top 4, rather than battling to get back in.

In a sense vdV already replaced a striker, so people were saying it might be two out, one in. Keane would obviously be the first in line, but maybe people don't want him. Would love to think it's guaranteed, but I'm not totally sure...
