MP likes players that can play in more than one position, wellbeck can play LWF RWF and CFWD he fits the bill

Welbeck has very similar attributes to Kane, but he also has the added attribute of being quick.

At the end of the day, he's homegrown, versatile and offers more than Townsend and Lennon put together. He had an excellent loan spell at Sunderland a couple of seasons ago and put in some decent performances for Manure.

Sometimes you have to take a punt on a player, just like Liverpool did with the 'stroppy gold digging' Sturridge... and he's turned out alright.

I like the idea of Welbeck. It seems like Poch has an ideal group of styles he wants to play - meaning he seems to prefer a number 10 style (Eriksen) a winger style (Lamela) and a wide forward style (Chadli).

I think J-Rod is prob his number 1 target for this role. Does this news mean J-Rod won't happen or that we are after Welbeck on loan, and prepared to wait for J-Rod?

Or as suggested by ITK, Southampton will only let us have MS if we agree to end our pursuit of JR, with Welbeck being our alternative.

I don't see how that would work though, you can promise anything you like but once/(if) Schneiderlin signs then Levy won't play around with J-Rod in January or whatever

I would expect there to be a clause inserted into a contract. It's happened before were teams have signed a player and agreed not to pursue players from the same club for a fixed period of time.

Wouldn't be surprised if Southampton had inquired about taking Welbeck on loan and we're fucking with them. I'd like that. I'd like that a lot.

I can only see Welbeck coming in regarding attacking players. I for one would welcome his pace and general adaptability within Poch's system. Would be a bloody good addition to the squad and he is still young enough to improve under Poch in my opinion.
IMO DW has been offered to us probably as a loan so MoPo went and had a look at him.

So far in his short period in charge, Poch has strengthened the team where needed,
got the players behind him, won the 1st 3 competetive games and even had Daniel smiling.
So if he's happy to take DW, I'll go with that.

This is what I love about these forums, and why a day never really goes by when I don't visit them. I was in the anti-Welbeck camp, but posts like this and other great posts in the thread have changed my mind. I now see that it's a very good option. I'd prefer J-Rod but obviously that's out of the question (for now). Welbeck does offer a helluva lot more than Townsend and Lennon, he will be very hungry to prove himself too, and I like the idea of 100% Ferguson-bred workrate... it's a no-brainer really. With Lamela's intense workrate on the right as well, we will literally wear teams out.

Welbeck is an outstanding option, given his versatility, age and work rate. As long as its a decent price, why not? I honestly think he is an upgrade over Lennon and Townsend. Plus for a guy so young he has plenty of big game experience. Lots to like there in my humble opinion.

Worth mentioning he made Redknapp look like he was sucking a lemon but unfortunately didn't leave him speechless, THAT I'd like to see.

So does this mean that the players we see tonight are expected to be our squad options?
Or a shop window? Or the chance to prove themselves? There are certainly several names there who people are expecting to be shipped out.
@SpursOfficial: #THFC team: Lloris; Naughton, Chiriches, Kaboul, Davies, Dembele, Sandro; Lennon, Paulinho, Townsend; Kane. #COYS

I think the ITK from Trix, Ali Z and Breezer about Townsend not being able to take instructions have been proven this evening

Only goes and scores as soon as I post, pen though so doesn't count
