The targets we are chasing are, by all accounts, still the targets, and will be signed in the next two weeks, fingers crossed.

Cheers. Of course I would love to see this followed with "and a few are close now" but it seems like many have mentioned we have our core targets and we're really just trying to wade our way through this summer and get them without being gazzumped or getting the wacky surcharges.

Such an odd account. If we have been chasing them all summer how can we be confident in signing them? Especially if it isn't about a reluctance to spend money?

Are the other teams waiting for replacements to sign on before selling?

Think levy might have a reputation where clubs/players/agents think they could probably get more from other clubs coming in. So they wait to see if anyone does.

My hang up with that is the "we will be signing" part, as that signifies confidence. If the players are holding out for other clubs or contract extensions I don't know how you can have that level of confidence.

I suppose. This could fit with Barkley, and Lemar (much less likely, imo...but I guess it's possible the Arsenal link and Barca links are leaks trying to get Levy to bump his bid?).

Agreed, every player is waiting for barca/Bayern/real/juve/free spending english team/psg..once they realise these teams aren't interested we may come into a players mind.

From what JJ was saying last night the extra £5m that we're getting from the Siggy deal is going to help get a deal or two over the line. It shows where we are financially in comparison to the rest of the top six when an extra £5m can make such a big difference.

I think that 5m is in the context of the Barkley deal because essentially EFC are paying themselves as that Sigurdsson money will recycle back to them.

By Koeman's own account, Everton are now close to buying Sigurdsson. Suggesting a recent breakthrough as just a few days ago, Swansea's manager had said no deal was close but had wanted the deal done before the season started. Imo JJ's most recent itks (emoji and developments) are Barkley related.

The info from Hertyid would seem more likely that we're still haggling on price and nobody has matched the asking price so players are still available. Maybe Foyth being an exception where it seems PSG have matched the price but he wants to join us. I think Foyth and Barkley are 2 of those players still available but only if we can agree the fee. Maybe a surprise name (Italian) in there as a 3rd target.

The trouble is there's so much money being paid out for other players it makes teams hold out for more for theirs.

What are the club learning from exactly? Finishing in our best position for half a century as top scorers in the league, best defence, sustaining a title challenge until the final weeks and all with a first team on less than the combined fee of Man Utd's record signing all while they finished sixth.

But if we look at it from another angle, since we are already so close, shouldn't we strengthen so we can win the league? Or we can actually strengthen so to prevent our tragic CL performances like last season?

Not trying to diss Levy or our transfer team as I do not have any idea what is going on behind the scene, but looking at the transfers of teams around so far, questions do indeed have to be raised, and I hope that things can be clarified in time to come.

Nonetheless, it is good to hear that the ITKs are on the same page and honestly at this stage, I would be ecstatic if we can get in 2 or even 1 of our original targets, not to mention 3.

That's been the message from most of the ITKs all along. A GK, someone to replace Walker, Barkley, a youngster and probably one other.

If we're in negotiations and it's just a case of agreeing fees then you can understand the confidence as a club wouldn't speak to us if they weren't willing to sell. Especially if the players contract is running out or they have a release clause.

I don't think Foyth is one of those names. Mainly because he wouldn't be a first teamer, I think its a RB, WF and Barkley.

Frustrating original targets can't be in for pre season, so important under poch to get used to how things work so they can hit the ground running come the start of the season.

Pereira, barkley, foyth and the mystery Italian link seem like they could be the original targets based on reports and links. Imo this would improve the squad hugely and add the depth we need to compete on all fronts
