I agree but for a club of our size..we shouldn't act like every 5 or 6 million pound transfer needs to hit. Sign Batshuayi for 6m before he goes to Marseille or Benteke before he went to Aston Villa and if he succeeds, you see what it means or if he becomes a bust, its a small price to pay. You can intelligently invest in high potential youth players, we are beginning to get back to that but we lost our way for a few years.

We've done that with Alli, Dier, Walker, Rose and it's come off... Wimmer looks the same and N'jie is too soon to know.

We did it with Capoue, Yedlin and Fryers for example and it hasn't worked out.

Modric, Bale, Huddlestone etc prove that we've always been a club willing to take a chance on young talent, but we can't get every emerging talent in the game.

Is there any chance that Bats, Janssen + Embolo are merely a smokscreen for a player we have followed, and Poch has wanted for a year - Berahino?

Yeah. I think you're onto something...

We would have fooled the entire football world into thinking that we wanted to sign some of the games most promising forwards... when all along we were just throwing them off the scent while we sign Saido Berahino... Haha! that'll show em.

1-0 Daniel Levy

The problem is Batshuayi/Benteke may not have had the opportunities to develop to where they are at now, regular football at a club they were settled at probably helped them succeed.

Alternatively Alli or Dier may have signed for a different PL club and not got the opportunities/environment to excel like they did this season.

As a relative newcomer to top flight and international football, Dutch fans have been quoted as being concerned that Janssen won't get the minutes to continue his development. Makes sense but for all we know Poch could make him even better.

Being at the right place at the right time is very important in football IMO.

€40m is roughly £31m - not a ridiculous fee considering the market and TV money. Just depends if MP sees him as a priority or not.

It is a ridiculous fee, £31m for Belgians 4th best striker who would be our backup for Kane is nuts imo. Janssen sounds like a much better deal for us

I'd agree, if batshuayi wasn't brilliant. He's perfect for thfc. And perfect for the pl.

Their national team coach doesn't rate him as highly, but he also plays Jan and Toby out of position. Michy is a brilliant talent and we would be incredibly lucky to sign him whatever the price.

As to how the Belgian coach ranks him in his squad is irrelevant. A coach that I'll point out is heavily criticised for being a negative waste of space. Some of the best strikers in Europe (Costa, Lacazette and Benzema) didn't even make their countries Euro squads... so does that mean they're not worth the fees they'll command? No it doesn't. Batboy would be a real asset for us and will add a dimension we currently lack in attack... pace and power.

You clearly haven't seen him play. He's even more complete than Kane. He was the player with the most assists at Marseille. He had the better goal ratio of a sub the previous season where he played for Bielsa doing the high pressing we do in our team.
If there's one that suits us perfectly is Batshuayi

Disagree with this Ossie, have answered this more fully in the Batshuayi thread though.

thanks for the update Trix. Interesting contrast with the won't sign MB and VJ line from JJ.

In putting all the pieces together, we should all keep our eyes on the zero net spend outcome, which has been the biggest indicator of signings for at least five years.

We might have been linked with quite a few dm s last summer but in the end the budget went on son and njie. History told us another twenty odd mill on Witsel was never gonna be spent.

. Wanyama will cost at least ten mill, likely twelve, Jansen twelve. Easily covered by Townsend and Carroll, Fazio, Yedlin, and perhaps one of Mason and Chadli.

I just don't see levy spending thirty mill on Bats. If they'd take one of his backloaded deals amounting to twenty five tops then maybe by selling Mason, Chadli and Pritchard we get close to funding the outlay.

Football in the UK is fucked when £20m is offered for Deeney and turned down. And we laughed at the Chinese....

What ever happens this window happens, I'm not getting to wound up this summer on ifs and whens, who turned us down etc......
At the end of day levy will keep us right, whatever happens.
