That escalated quickly.

I hope the release clause is only going to take effective if we're not in the CL, which is fair.

If there's a clause I don't really see the point in the new contract tbh. Why give him a nice wage hike when he's disrespected the entire club, even if it's only for a season? Doubt the rest of the squad would view it kindly.

Either commit to the club with a new contract without a release clause or don't sign one at all imo.

He’s no longer Spurs. Mentally left the building. I’m ready to move on if we can get the right price. Otherwise we’ve got this hanging over us for another 12 months. Time to move on. Bet we aren’t far from bridges being broken between levy and Kane anyway. If they aren’t already.

I would agree but a large release clause will likely put clubs off imo

Still think it will be difficult for Man City to sit still if Chelsea bring in Lukaku. I imagine they are going to make one more run at Kane next week.

dragon1 said: regarding HK
they withdrew the fine after initial discussions with Harry sat

What I was told was that he asked for the extra time off and was told no but still took it anyway

The club let the story run as they have been livid largely with Charlie , harry annoyed them with the neville interview pre the villa game when we had a chance of cl or Uefa football he also pissed the dressing room off

Charlie has been leaking to there media the sun showbiz thing was all him as were all the sky and other media stuff , Daniel had had enough

Paul miller is very well connected both with the club and certain players in this case he is giving a statement from the Kane families side of things , the biggest thing you should take from that is that the Kane family are open to discussing a new deal with spurs

I can say with some certainty that one of two things will happen between now and the 23rd of Aug , either Kane will be sold for 160 million plus and Fab will have a good week to spend it in the window or Kane will sign a massive contract I do not believe the club want to do this all over again next summer its not good for Kane or Spurs

Great summary - thx.
At least there are talks & negotiations.

Strong whiff of ‘contract offered, not accepted, City bid big, reluctantly agreed, player sold’.

An agreed price, with a cut off date so it can’t be triggered on deadline day is fine. No messing around like this summer. We get a fee we find acceptable he gets guarantee he won’t be stuck here if we sink further down the pecking order etc.

Look: Us fans are always a bit horny on flashy new signings. But spunking 160 mp or whatever really, really doesn’t come with a success guarantee. Look at our biggest signings; more or less flops all of them. It’s always nice to dream about Vlahovic+Martinez for Kane, but Kane guarantees us 20+ goals. Top scorer, top playmaker last season. Our by far biggest marked asset. One we KNOW will deliver.

Of course I agree that Kanes actions this summer is bang out of order, but tying him down to a new contract without a horribly low release clause is by far the best signing Tottenham can make this summer.

I've said it before in the Kane thread, but signing a new contract is the only way (most) fans will really forgive him for his behaviour. If we're honest, it's probably the best case scenario. As much as he's pissed us all off and new signings are exciting, it's highly unlikely that anyone we sign would be as good as Kane is.

He either goes and we get a shit load of money (and we finally look to have someone that actually knows how to spend it), or he stays, signs a new deal and we keep the best striker in the world who will then be fully motivated. This seems like good news to me.

Release clauses are fine as long as they are structured correctly. For example, Chelsea and Arsenal should be excluded. The clause should only be activated if we’re not in the CL ourselves (cue Kane playing crap last few games if we’re close in 5th). The fee should be painfully high too.

If a release clause is part of any new contract then so be it, the club won’t undervalue him, so we know it’ll be high. Gives a clear stance then to any clubs, here’s the release clause Kane agreed to, pay it or don’t bother calling us.
The deadline is the key bit. Sounds like we a plan, and a contingency, and know how long we need to enact either. Good signs.

Definite parallels with Grealish (and Lautaro) to be fair. Could be playing to the 'how to sell your star player' text book or just be the smart thing to do in this kind of situation as its hedging your bets.

I'd rather he stayed one year and signed a 100m release clause. With a couple of clubs excluded - chavs and goons.

Who knows, we have a good season and he may stay longer.
