Will need more than 100mill for those 4 players!!
Contract situations say otherwise. Some top players in Italy seem to be winding down their contracts. Bargains will be had if clubs want some compensation for their players departing. Could maybe even come in lower than that 100m spend.

Anyone else a little concerned about the alleged length of the contract?

18 months isn't long and as good as Conte is, it would be a miracle if we won the league next season, even if Levy gets him the players he wants.

But, then perhaps 18 months is just to give both sides a chance to check each other out?

And if Conte does decide to leave after 18 months then I believe that he has a good chance of leaving us in the CL, at least.
I'd be more worried if we'd given him a 4 or 5 year deal. He'll be on absurd wages. And he's only ever managed one club for more than two years.

History shows he'll probably implode after a couple of good seasons, and if he does we don't want to be paying him 3 years' wages for circa £45m.

(In practice it wouldn't be that high, but that depends on a variety of factors.)

I'm sure there will be options to extend within the contract from both sides.

We essentially just told the Saudi’s they’ll have stiff competition for the top players in the January market. They’ll have the bottomless pit of money, yes but with the very real & present danger of a 46 game season in the 2nd tier while we’ll have the facilities, the hope of a better tomorrow without a threat of relegation & one of the top 3 managers in football. Levy & Joe have got nowhere to turn now. Time to put their money where their mouth is
I wouldn't be worried about Newcastle. At least not yet. I reckon they'll end up buying washed up once upon time good footballers on huge wages like James Rodriguez etc.

Anyone who thinks we should appoint a "future" manager instead of Conte is insane IMO. Its like saying I won't eat today to save the food for tomorrow, whilst dying in the process.

Conte is probably one of the top 3 managers in world football, in the peak of his powers (unlike Jose). That he's willing to come to this shitshow is a miracle and credit to Paratici for making it happen.

I think there are quite a few deals to be done in January given the amount of players with expiring contracts this summer and the summer after. Never seen a list as big as the one this year.

Really hope they film Conte’s face the first time he lays eyes on Doherty in tomorrow’s training.

That's what Paratici is here for.

He'll continue making signings for the future, like Gil and Sarr (we may have to loan them out though)

Conte will be focused on maximising the team for the here and now.
This is exactly how it should work.

I hope that's how it will work.

Agree with a lot of the sentiments here. I think we'd all like to see another Poch style project manager who reboots the squad, uses youth, plays good football and inspires us.

However, Conte is simply one of the best managers in the world. Right now in our squad we also still have a world class winger in Son (29), a great keeper in Lloris (34) and dare I say one of the best strikers in the world in Kane (28), with a manager like Conte we could still get something out of our current project.

That's pretty much what Hercules said. It's extendable if all goes well. Probably best all around to start off with 18 months.

Prof from COYS on background to Nino sacking
”Discussions about his fit for the club started right after the NLD. They started quietly feeling out possible replacement options after the vitesse/spammers blunder. United game sealed the deal.”

To be fair he was lucky to survive the NLD, but what saved him was it was so early in the season. That ''performance'' was appalling.

If Conte is still with Spurs after 18 months I will be truly shocked and probably very delighted. I just can’t see Levi matching his ambition.

Cool, cool. Tone down your optimism a bit, though. Luckily that optimism rating is gone now, though.

The thing with Conte - compared to Mourinho - Conte seems to leave his teams better than when he found them. Mourinho walks away from an implosion - Conte simply walks away.
