Oh ye people are/were so quick to right off one of our own academy players, because it suited the notion that he was overrated. Yet when we sign someone people are happy to give them a year to settle to see how they do, but that doesn't surprise me with the youth players.

All anyone on this thread suggested was that he'd be good enough to play in the PL, be a squad player and potentially become top class, which resulted in indirect mocking in other threads laughing at the notion he could play in a top league, or was he even good enough for Championship. Careers are long and things can change for the worse but great to see that, as we said, if he were to be given a chance he'd prove himself in a top league.

Just a quick search of his name and you will see 'expert pundits' declare him not good enough, even though Poch wanted him to get a new contract. Lets hope he continues to do well, again will only be a good look for our academy. We now have 2 ex academy players doing well there.

Don't think he's at the level where we'd look to resign him he would have to do a lot more and continue to improve for us to spend money on him, though he could obviously play for us, but wouldn't surprise me in the future.
He isn't yet but he has a big future ahead of him imo

He is only 21, people want us to sign Keane yet he is 4 years older and when he was 20, no one was calling for us to sign him then? Worth remembering both of these players played in that U21 cup final 4 years ago at CB

agree about veljkovic. i've seen a bit of werder this season and whilst i don't think he's at the level where i'd say we should sign him, not currently anyway, he is at the level where he'd have been a useful squad member - like a ben davies type or something.

serge gnabry though, arsenal really screwed up letting him go.

He also has the versatility that Poch craves in players - someone that a player like CCV arguably lacks.

As BC says I don't think the overrating on here is anymore than anywhere else on the forum. Look at the furore Edwards has caused after featuring about 3 times for the first team, and now Winks. I have just been saying Winks shoudl be getting games and would be better than squad players we could buy in CM. And if he manages to translate what he did for u21s he would be excellent, and don't think he has done that quite yet, but am quietly impressed with how it's gone so far and am excited but now people are calling him the next Modric/Carrick or better than Dembele. Also when a young player comes through a la Winks, Bentaleb, Kane or Rose people will comment on how much better it is because of the passion and commitment they show which is another reason I would like us to use our best academy players as squad players as they'll have more desire. We all want the same things but for some reason believing a young player can do the job of a first teamer is outrageous.

As you say there will be failures and your ratios are basically that but you'd expect the better academies to produce more PL players but it doesn't work like that due to opportunties. I recently saw one of our old decent u18s players working in tesco, its a hard life but I don't think anyone here has any misconception about how many are expected to make it. We just call it as we see it. All I ask is that those who are highly rated, the best youth players, are given a fair chance as the only people to benefit will be us. We don't lose anything by providing the best youth players the conditions to allow them to show their ability. If they fail, no worries, we have more squad players. If they come off we have another potentially quality player in our squad/team with passion who we can identify us, which will either save or make us money, essential in the current climate. I know some might not handle that step up, or can't cope with the pressure, but that is its own variable, lets not throw others in like, poor team, random minutes, strange potions.

Some posters unanimously agree on certain players I'm thinking Onomah, Winks, KWP and Edwards (I'd say Prtichard but I know even @WindyCOYS wasn't a fan). Others not so much. BC said he doesn't rate CCV. BG and Rom don't like Oduwa so on and so forth, noone gets anything from just all jumping on a bandwagon and rating a player for no reason
Even WindyCOYS? What's that prick know anyway? ;)

Pleased that Veljkovic has finally made his breakthrough it seems. I don't see as much as a lot of you, particularly in the last couple of years, but he would be in my top three of players (in terms of all-round game, not just technical ability but reading/feel/appreciation for the game) I have seen in the youth sides and it would have been a waste if he never made that final step to a high level first team career. Shame its not with us, but can understand why he left.

Really, I remember that there was a whole load of people who rated very highly and were confused that he didn't seem to feature in the main squad, most others didn't see him play. A lot of people seemed very annoyed that Poch wouldn't put him in the side, and this caused debates with many suggesting that Poch just didn't think he was mobile enough.

When ever I watched him play for the youth teams, whenever there was a stream, he looked good calm and composed and I liked his style but I thought he was a bit soft for a CB, and thought his future was in midfield.

Its good that he is doing well. He has come into the team as Bremen have switched to back three, so he comes in as the third Centre Back. Its good that he is now playing regularly for an inform team, but we should still remember Bremen have been pretty crap for some time now, and it's taken him a while to get into that side. I don't mean this as a criticism of him, but again, I don't think it was that inexcusable that he didn't get his chance at tottenham. I am happy for him though and hope he has a good career in front of him.

I wonder how Azzaoui is doing, last I heard he had a bad injury after a season of playing largely in the B team. I think he left under the promise of being fast tracked. I don't blame him, after all the competition at Spurs for young players in his position is intense. Can understand why leaving to 'wolfsburg' to be there big young thing would appeal!

how can you say that about ccv he hasn't even started five games in total for the first team. Not saying that you are wrong to feel that way about Onomah, but you have to remember these two are still both very young, people need to give them time and show some patients.

The lady who sits behind me at work has a 7 year old son who has just been brought into whatever setup Spurs have for that age. He does his first training session next week and his mum spent last week scouring the internet for Spurs replica kits in kid sizes for him to show up in on his first day... much, she was telling me, to the chagrin of his dad who is a diehard Arsenal fan and is super pissed off that she is spending a load of money to kit him out in our colours! :ROFLMAO:
Not one to trouble the first-team setup for a while ( :playful: ), but the little boy of my colleague at work had his first session (I think with the U8s) at the Training Centre today and she is made up; been excitedly sharing Facebook photos of him in a Spurs kit in the grounds of the Training Centre. He's also trained with MK Dons in the past year (BOOOOOOO!!!!) and she can't stop going on about how it felt almost like a different planet at our facilities compared to MK. Will keep you all posted if I have some ITK about 10-11 years from now... ;)

Watching U-21 games, still looks shaky at times there... I do hope I am wrong though, some people need a good 3 months and their season just kicks on.

I have no idea how you got to that conclusion, CCV hasn't played in many u21 games this year and the previous years that he did I always rated him as one of the standout consistent performers. Last year the u21's were unstable but I wouldn't blame that on CCV.

What position does he play at the moment?

Midfield, from what I gather - his mum says he's a little speedy gonzalez and the coaches are working on developing his skills as their early focus. She is positively gushing about how awesome our setup is, really good to hear.

I worry for Onomah.... he's really at the point where he must play and hopefully progress. IMO his development has stalled the last couple of years. I have no such worries for CCV, he's tracking just the way he should and will make it with us.

I've been critical of Onomah, definitely, but to not make the bench today whilst Sissoko does is just a slap in the face. If Josh is injured then fine but Sissoko has been so, so poor and doesn't have the excuse of youth and inexperience that Josh does.

Probably just to try and make him not become the forgotten man so we can still get some money for him in the summer.

Edwards and Onomah both deserve to be ahead of him though.

If Onomah leaves i'll be a bit annoyed, but if Edwards leaves i'll be utterly furious.
