Our U15 will join the indoor tournament "Pape-Cup" again this weekend

We are in the same group with Dortmund, Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, Vfb Ottersleben

Schedule

Good find. Which also reminds me, annoyingly it looks like we aren't taking a team to Riga, unless anyone can find anything to the contrary.

Has anyone seen this? Mental. And this excludes EFL players like Mount, Barnes, Abraham, Eze, Aarons, Kelly etc. (as well as Solanke)

I've said before that the talent we have could win us a World Cup and when people post those squads of France and Germany of their depth we could easily do something like that if we improve our pathways.

If the top 6 clubs gt themselves into shape or the PL/FA do something that supports academy players moving on, then England would look so much better. The players that have been wasted at top 6 clubs is ridiculous, and this 100% includes players like Onomah/Edwards, who are deemed not good enough. Look at the Hudson-Odoi situation. A player they value around 40m but 'isn't good enough' for their firs team. It's a ridiculous situation. The club clearly know he is good enough, just like our club know ours are, but despite valuing him at 40m they still don't want to 'risk' playing him in first team football. These are the things affecting the youth players and it is something that massively affects our club too. You hear Poch claim he trusts these players, but Skipp isn't actually being considered as genuine rotation at this point and neither is KWP despite 3 MOTMs. It really is a bizarre situation England/PL finds itself in when a player like KWP can do what he has done, and still not have the complete trust of his manager. Would not happen abroad or in the EFL

How much of a loss is Brown?
He has zero chance of having a professional football career at Tottenham. He has a better chance at Huddersfield. It really is as simple as that. This is not a losing a young talent story.
You're a bit sharper than me lol but this really is it. Regardless of how good we actually thought he was, he would definitely have not stood a chance here especially when compared to others, so there's no real loss here.

In 2 years of visiting this thread I’ve never heard Brown spoken about once in regard to breaking into senior squad. That probably tells you everything.
I'm probably one of the few that like him. I think he is a good all round left back without a really outstanding trait. He has the potential to be a PL player, which is great, so hopefully it goes well for him at Huddersfield

Who are the most highly rated 2 or 3 in the next intake ?

It's not been confirmed yet. But quite easy to answer as the best will have been offered contracts and likely pros by now.

Nile John is probably the best, then I'd say Michael Craig. Lusala and Robson are also good players. From the little I've heard about this Thomas kid he could easily be the outstanding talent.

Bit worrying losing Brown to Huddersfield?

Supposed to be a talented left back, a position where we have been struggling in this season when Rose has been unavailable (and earlier in season not fully fit).

What does Brown see in Huddersfield that he doesn’t see here?

Why do bitches keep voting this funny lol! I was genuinely worried! ???

Chelsea have embodied everything wrong with talent development for years. Suck in every big talent they can find, win a fuckton of FA Youth Cups, then ignore them completely and farm them out with no career trajectory once they hit 19.

I know everyone likes to beat Chelsea and praise us, but we aren't really ones to complain. The plus side to what they do, is a lot of their players get out on really good loans. So if/when they don't make the first team, a lot end up playing Premier League football anyway. The frustrating thing is if they have actually developed and integrated them properly into the first team they would have some real talents

Personally think maghoma has something about him reminds of a young yaya. If he went on to be a superstar I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s not to many I could say that about in the current youth set up. But he’s one of those you feel he could be an absolute superstar but could also be a total flop. The one thing he has over most of our CM talents is he seems to score goals and from anywhere.

Covered your bases well lol. I see what you mean but as BG said his style of play doesn't suit Pochettino. Maghoma was an excellent player at u16s and struggled first year. I'm pleased to see him really come to the fore and show his obvious talent this year. He has the ability to be a Premier League play of that I have no doubt, but as I've said his style is not what Poch seems to go for. He's too much of a risk taker, getting shots off, he will try too many attacking passes, quite a few don't come off and he really likes running with the ball. He will need to cut these out of his game, or reign in his game if he wants to really stand a chance of coming through here

I know what you’re saying but I’d rather he remains a risk taker. We have enough safe/sideways CM at the club we don’t really need another. What we do need is another Sissoko type that can actually shoot.

Where does this Thomas lad play ?

"Assurances of first team football" I have realised is the most pointeless phrase. It means nothing. He isn't assured of anything. Probably along the lines of 'if you work hard yardy yah, and don't give the ball away, I may give you a chance'. So literally the same thing that would be said to any player
Not true , they can not afford to loose any more youth to other decent clubs . If it means taking them along and making them the 19th man on a match day , or putting them on the bench and not using them , or giving them 10 to 15 mins on a nothing game or a game that we have practically already won then that’s what we will do . The youngsters then think they have made it and sign new contracts , which keeps hold of them for another year or so . Example maghoma was bought on for the Girona game , what does he do ? , he signs the contract . Keeps him here a bit longer to see if he develops well enough. Jaden Brown went on pre season 2 years ago apparently . Signed another contract , buys us time then we get rid of him possibly as we have cirkin coming through. But then you have joe Pritchard , charlie Owens , ryan loft who were never good enough so never promised first team exposure . We lost Bennett’s , Griffiths , noni madeuke . We will not want to make same mistake again

But if the manager likes a specific type of player then being a risk taker won't help him become a pro for the club. KWP also appears to have adapted his game atm as I haven't seen him go on a proper dribble for a while and he still struggles for real game time.

Either way if Poch really intends to bring through Skipp it would be unlikely to bring through 2 players in the same age group in the same area of the field Would be very hard for Poch to do. If another player was ever brought through any time soon, I'd expect it in another area of the pitch.

Thomas is a forward from what I've heard. But should also clarify can't confirm if he is here and how good he actually is.Only had one report. Lot more confident at this point in saying that John is the biggest talent next season, though of course development and how they adapt can change. But he is a lovely player

I guess it depends on what you mean by 'assurances of first team football' I wouldn't consider that preaseason football firstly, I'd think at least Cup appearances for the first team, and then event then by assurances how many games/minutes are we talking. It soudns like what you're saying is, we are just tricking these players into signing contracts so that we don't lose them without guaranteeing any actual football.

It's like the Hudson-Odoi situation. I heard someone say, it might have even been Sarri said CHO is assured of first team football if he works hard enough. Working hard enough is subjective to the manager, and CHO could work harder than Willian and still not be deemed as working hard enough. Which is probably why he sin't signing any contract, clearly he doesn't trust these assurances. You can't assure anyone first team football once it comes with the caveat, of working hard enough. I don't dispute that a player should work hard, but how hard are they having to work compared to other players, just a convenient excuse for Sarri to say, I don't want to risk playing an untested player yet.

Huge congratulations to David Button, who on Saturday, 2 months shy of his thirtieth birthday, kept a clean sheet in his maiden premier league start after a career of being a reserve goalie for primarily lower league sides. He left us after not breaking through, dropped into the championship, and has played in all of the top five leagues now with many of his loans from Spurs taking him to the conference, league two and league one. Won’t get the same attention as Harry Kane’s rise but deserving of equal praise for his determination in finally breaking through at the top level.

In his second appearance, tonight, he had no chance on either goal.

Sounds a common sense strategy tbh. Nothing to lose really in the ones we are optimistic about.

Interesting thought, what will be going through Hudson-Odoi's mind right now? CFC reject a 20m offer from Munich, only to then sign Pulisic. Everything wrong with the English game's approach to youth development right now?

It's crazy that Chelesa have spent 50m on a player that everyone really rated, who was then displaced by an English academy player who, had he not left to go abroad would still essentially be considered a nobody. and that player is essentially going to block the pathway of a player they have in their academy, who while slightly different to the player that displaced Pusilic, has the ability to be as much of a revelation, but again is just stuck in the academy not being trusted. Ladies and gentleman, the English academy system.

And as I've said before I even think we missed a trick with Edwards, who doesn't have the pace so would be harder to ease in, but if he didn't sign that contract and left when he was still flying, the same contract that Sancho never signed we'd never know where they'd be.

I'd seen Pulisic play a few times as a youngster and while he was rapid, and very good Edwards was still the massive talent or at least on an equal footing.

http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/ind...outh-news-thread.110644/page-166#post-4390670

this isn't the first time I've said this of course

http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/ind...and-alexander-isak.127874/page-2#post-5382715

And while Edwards could still come good the importance of continuing your progression on an upward trajectory and not stagnating and stalling, I don't think can be understated. I think it was Vieira that said how important it is to continue your progression and play games, and getting out of u23 football. Not playing or stagnating can knock your confidence, which is what we've seen with Edwards. The thing is now, the next level of players are coming through who are learning the lessons of the predecessors and we're finding that the best of our even younger players are better than the more established older talent. As I post so often, the amount of talent England waste really is incredible. Of course not all will meet their potential but we don't even give the opportunity for them to do that.

I'll be honest I'd hope our players are more sensible than that. Look at Hudson-Odoi and there've been others. He's playing Europa League football and isn't signing. I can't see how being on the bench for an FA Cup game or preseason will convince people. I genuinely think the youngsters nowadays are a bit wiser. Though those who aren't star stars, may take the easy money. You'd be crazy to think your best chance of making it is staying at a PL club.

Exactly we don’t seem to be bringing through any amazing talent , that really excite you , they either leave or we don’t promote them . As much as I like Oliver Skipp as a player there is no excitement there . Maybe that will come for him in time hopefully

In saying that I am very optimistic about Skipp. Relative to his position and style of play, I think there is a lot of potential and I don't think there are many better players around his age in the world, which I find exciting. I also think there is a lot more to his game than he has shown even for the u23s and has the ability to be a swashbuckling box to box, however even if he is just kept to a strict DM role he could really be special. But I do get what you mean in that he doesn't bring that traditional excitement in his style of play and alot of what I have said, is dependent on whether or not he is allowed to develop, given games and is trusted to feel confident enough to expand his game. Otherwise I fear he could just become a sideways passer. However, even if he develops the confidence or becomes settled like Winks I think we will have a very handy player

Here's a post from Chelseayouth that I liked

http://thechels.net/2018/12/how-does-a-hudson-odoi-become-an-mbappe/

Also touches on a major bugbear of mine, when people say, so and so hasn't done well here since they have left so were never good enough for us.

This argument also doesn't take into account, that players like Fletcher, Butt, O'Shea, Evans, Brown, Cleverly, Welbeck for United and even Mason and Townsend for us, all performed admirably and made large contributions to the club they come through in but once left only fell down the football ladder and other than Welbeck could not play at a club at anywhere near a similar level and never went to pull up trees. Player that have trained in a certain way when playing around top quality players, will play better and look better and may never become world class but will save money. I think that this is the biggest point missed when utilising the academy, and something that Fergie understood. Just because a player doesn't pull up trees elsewhere ti doesn't mean he was never good enough to play for the first team, and in fact that player may have excelled if given the chance. Adapting to another club and style of football can really affect performance.
