Interesting to see if this means end of Bernard pursuit. For me it wouldn't definitely mean that as Townsend could easily fetch the Chadli fee if he isn't fancied. Furthermore unless we've already given up our negotiations with AM, it wouldn't make sense to abandon him yet before we've had a chance to speak to the player (which is after Wednesday he will entertain suitors)

If the news about Chadli is true I don't think we would continue looking at Bernard.

Unless Bernard can play as a striker, does anyone know if Bernard can play upfront?

I guess if Bale, Siggy, Dempsey, Holtby, Lennon and all the other attacking midfielders we have take the wide forward spots can Bernard play as the main striker (in place of Defoe and Adebayor) in a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1?

Similar to Dawson last season, I can't see Lennon giving up his starting XI place lightly.
I think Dawson was lucky that injurys were in his favour. As for Lennon doesn't score or create enough will be an impact sub imo.

I'd be stunned if we push for Bernard after this. It ain't going to happen.

I'm glad we are being decisive though. Just maybe we'll get Soldado as the biggie signing if we can sell Defoe, for that statement of intent to Bale as well.

Just saw Atlanta's update... Can anyone fathom if the £50 million is including Paulinho, the tense would suggest it's not inclusive. It would mean Chadli, Bernard and say Soldado is feasible. :dead:

I don't get the idea of selling Defoe/Ade and only bringing in one striker. That leaves us with what we had last season, which was only having two strikers. Granted it maybe an improvement in terms of actual personnel, but surely we should be adding a 3rd? Unless that 3rd is someone like Kane/Obika/Coulthirst.

Don't know much about this Chadi bloke other than what people have said about him on here, so I just googled him, and I must say......he does look good in a pair of pants :D

Ahem anyway, if it means buying him instead of Bernard, but then having the extra money to spend on a striker  then I'd rather do that tbh. Although we do need two strikers imo, but that won't happen as it's hard enough for us getting one *sigh*

hmmm well Chadli I suppose is about our level, cheap and young. Guess that means no Bernard:cry: not that I ever expected us to spend 21 million on a player but it was a nice dream.

I don't really see Bernard or Chadli as a one or the other, if it were then surely we would be looking at a one or other of two very similar types of player whereas from what I have seen they are very different

I would have thought Chadli is the kind of player that will be a squad strengthener rather than a regular starter but a decent enough sub option and a player that could be described as a wide striker. Bernard looks far more creator, string puller and the lock picker against tight defences and though he might need a bit of adjustment time would be a regular starter

Maybe we have a decent offer for Townsend so approx £6 mill for Chadli who looks to have more goalscoring potential gives us a replacement attacker in the squad and won't impact our pursuit of Bernard

As much as I would have liked Benteke I was uneasy with some of the figures being quoted. It will be very interesting to see if he can repeat the form of last season in this coming season.

Unfortunately he will....again and again

Would Chadli go straight into our starting XI at LWF? I see the logic behind Chadli. A good player with potential to improve, great first touch, good set-piece delivery and a bullet of a right foot (cheers, YouTube), helping to usher us into a 4-3-3 (with inverted WFs). We can always still play Bale at LWF with Lennon RWF, Townsend and Chadli as back up if it doesn't work. Hopefully, the relatively small transfer fee will free up funds for a badman striker and a first team LWB (please let it be Coentrao!).

I would think so otherwise we're talking about £70million nearly, very unlikely. Still if chadli is true with Paulinho that's £24m and £26m left excluding outgoings income.

Be nice if it meant "yes" to Soldado though. :D Chadli looks class so try not to be too disappointed (if it happens of course). ;)

Great news!

Physically he is very similar to Bale - 6"2, powerfully built and great pace.

We are going to have a team of absolute beasts next year.
