He was the top young player in ligue1 why are giving him a trial doesn't show confidence. Hate to be harsh but we are known for stuff like this.
You are mixing up stories here. We were in for him 2 summer transfer windows ago (not including this one). This would have been 1+ years before Dortmund signed him. And that was when the trial was offered not last summer when Dortmund signed him and we were never truly linked with him.

It wasn't so much the trial that bothered me ( to be fair, Wenger once apparently asked Ibrahimovic to come over for a trial before signing him so we're not the only ones).

Assuming the story is accurate, what got me was asking the player to pay all expenses involved. Now I'm sure he can afford it, but it's hardly a smart thing to do when trying to woo a potential asset.

something weird goes on with Spurs on some of these transfers Aubameyang and Benteke both say they would never consider us again after dealing with Levy...

Maybe, but our squad is full of guys who all seem like genuinely good blokes, so if they were happy to join Spurs, the process/Levy can't be that bad.

Instead of players doing that, I wish that clubs like United, City et al, would say the same thing about not wanting to deal with Levy. It would stop the s..t stirring at every TW.

With Aubameyang - it was clearly that he wasn't our first choice target at the time, and we were dragging our heels while probably negotiating with someone else. These things happen all the time, and every club has the ones that got away stories.

Think it's pretty ambitious to hope Lemar doesn't sign with Arse just cause he doesn't get along with a potential teammate who Arse have also yet to sign.

Yeah I said when we were linked with him and Costa that we'd almost certainly end up with Barkley instead. I'd be happy to get Barkley late in the window for a reasonable price as an additional signing, but if he's the only attacking midfielder we sign this summer I'm going to be disappointed.

This thread is like reading the bible. On one page it says "thou shall not kill" then on the other page "an eye for an eye"

I wish some of you would make your minds up

Edit: one thing for sure is A&C WILL KILL!

IMO. If it is right or not, I think the story was come for a trial with the u21, and pay his own expenses to get here.

i hope thats not true. cant imagine how fucking petty and cheap we look. if that happened to me i will never ever sign for the club that did that to me

When was the last time we bought someone Ready made who was coveted by a lot of clubs, genuinely can't remember??

Okay, I'm always really confused on this one. Why does it honestly matter how many clubs were after a certain player? Like... I really cannot get why that's a thing.

Yes, there's a basic idea that if you're a good player then you'll attract attention from other clubs but it's not like every good or potentially good player attracts all the clubs or anything close to that.

I mean in recent history, Wanyama wasn't really attracting the attention of many clubs, walked straight into our first team. Toby we had to compete with Southampton with sure but that's pretty much it. Dier pretty much walked straight into our first team when we bought him and I don't remember a queue of teams lining up for him.

If you want one where we did win we have Dele. Liverpool in for him but we won that. Or maybe let's go back to Jan who we beat Arsenal to get.

So not only do I not get the fascination with wanting players other clubs are in for, we actually have done alright when this is the case in the past. Sure we won't win all of those and get every player BUT NO CLUB DOES.

Bringing it back on topic, Lemar would be a great addition to our team but not the end of the world if we don't. So far there's pretty much no players we've been linked with that dramatically improve out strongest team, they just add to our depth and there's seemingly a few other players who also fit in that category. From how last season went I think that's our biggest issue anyway, depth. If we're such a big team, how come one or two injuries derail us? So yeah, depth is the main thing and Lemar would have added that, but so would a fit again Lamela, or a Ross Barkley, or a Demari Gray (I know they play different positions but fluid front 4 plus cover plus adaptability etc...)
