PSV came and did a professional job on us. They seemed to have anticipated our channels of potential threat and made sure that they doubled up to extinguish it. For us, dominance and time were never apparent tonight and it was chiefly down to our central pairings. Only this week we had discussed at length the lack of a cover-all central pairing for Spurs and tonight we saw how lacking we can be. People won't like the analogy but PSV played like a more sophisticated Bolton at their best. Rock solid with a central 3 that swamped our two. In the first half an hour we did not move the ball quick enough to really turn their wider players and only the willingness of Steed to move into the box ever looked threatening apart from Keanes magic moment.
Interestingly I believe we are still very much in this tie. PSV's harnessed discipline tonight we not be acceptable at home for them. There will be less compression and more space.
There was no shame in losing to PSV tonight they are a very effective, balanced and modern side. Ramos has a week to think about it but I doubt he will enter the return with such weak passing options next time. I hope he plays Huddlestone and O'Hara from the start because they can unlock defences. If Taarbrt gets a run against the spammers and plays well he could start as well.
