It was all Son's fault.

If he hadn't played so well at the weekend then Poch wouldn't have bottled the correct decision to leave him on the bench for this game.

Poch playing Son,. forced Alli out of his position causing the knock on effect of messing up his, Dier's and Kane's game.

Son's substitution at half time points clearly to this.
I don't think it was incorrect to start with him and he could have scored within ten mins. Given Dembele's hip problems, it made sense to bring him on in the second half. Poch wasn't expecting our defence to gift two goals.

Yea and I also feel that he wanted to play the players that had played a major part in getting the club to the CL last season. Otherwise Wanyama would have probably started as he has done in all the other games. Start off solid then get more expansive in the second half if need be. Although Monaco didn't create too many shooting opportunities, they looked very dangerous on the counter and had a lot of space, Dier was getting pulled apart.
He played the team that after Wanyama departed on Saturday went on to score 3 more goals. I feel Poch thought this had better balance and attacking threat as opposed to having 2 x DM's.

Yea, but playing bottom of the table Stoke isn't the same as playing a top of the table Monaco. Maybe Poch didn't realise this as before the game he said playing those teams are no different.

Nobody knows, been seen in training photos, some have said he's carrying an injury. Maybe he's just out of favour for whatever reason. I'd like to know our record with him in the team last season.

I blame Hodgson.. Fuck with his England setup in the Euros that sapped our Kane, Alli and Dier of all confidence and need to have them so often answering critics all by themselves.. How many times you see them answering questions when they were in England camp compared to at the club.. Our club social media team may have been crap sometimes with useless, but sometimes fun, interviews, but rarely we see them having to answer for tactical and performance related questions that they have to fend for themselves..

Kane taking free kicks and corners, Alli's position, Dier's performance, they answered all these critics themselves more than an inept Hodgson did to protect them...

Having 5 players in the national team was more than a glory, which was what I initially thought.. But it is becoming a burden now with so many press and outlets so eager to point fingers at our players whenever the England squad got it wrong, not knowing playing Rooney in the no. 10 was a poorer decision people like to overlook.. And I don't even wish to mention how Rashford is starting to being seen as the game changer now for the national team ffs..

I'm short, IMO, the effects of poor team management in the national team is over-casting a lingering but long shadows on our main 3 players of the 5 young lions in our squad.. And I think Poch knows and is not liking it, hence he made it clear very even before the season starts on downplaying the pressure they had from the Euros to alleviate any pressure they are facing..

Of course neither Hodgson or the performances of our boys this summer helped, however your point is fatally undermined by Raheem Sterling, he is looking awesome again.

Sorry but this is chiefly fatigue IMO, the cards dealt are the cards we hold, so I don't buy Poch blaming others, his job is to lift them, like Pep has with Sterling, plus oversee the conditioning.

Very frustrating to see Kane and Dier in particular not given enough recovery.

bit of a weird game.

This is the UCL, Monaco are top of the French league, so no-one should have expected just to turn up in order to win.

We seemed very impatient both on the pitch and in the coaching team - bearing in mind a draw would have been perfectly acceptable. The starting line up was too eager to attack and the players seemed anxious to score early. During the game as a whole too much tinkering with the formation. I don't know about "no plan b", we seemed to be on plan E by the end of the game. All of that said a few small differences and we could have easily won that game.

Hopefully the novelty of the first game at wembley is out of the way, next time I would like to see us play with a bit more maturity and patientce

I posted in here (I think) that I had an important day regarding a possible new job before going to Wembley.

Well..

I GOT THE JOB! So at least one half of the day went to plan!

It's not helped by the fans groaning with impatience.

Saw Things like that myself, the stadium didn't pack out till at least 10 mins into the game which I found quite odd.
I don't think the majority of us were prepared for what 85k fans going to a mid-week evening game entailed... the increased volume on the transport, queues at the turnstiles, plus the never ending escalators. Learning curve needed for when there's 65k of us swarming up the high road in 2 years time.

I was being a little facetious, IMO if Son starts which he deserved to do then Poch should have had the balls to leave Lamela on the bench.

Alli is an attacking 3 player, all his good performances are in this position and he also helps Kane with his game (as per England)

Alli selection in the DM2 unbalanced the team causing other players games to suffer.

It should have been IMO Dier and Wanyama/Dembele and then Son, Alli and Eriksen in the attacking 3.

Getting out was fucking impossible last night. People were literally jumping over the railings to get down the slopes, don't know whether Wembley is always like this. Didn't get on my train until over an hour after full time.

No offence, would rather the other half came through! (Congrats though)
