So title winners go all season winning every game? I think people are misunderstanding the word "must".

Nothing wrong with aiming to win, but saying must win implies that if you lose it's all over, which is why it's aimed at the end of the season normally.

I want us to win, I hope we win, but if we don't it doesnt mean our season is over, therefore not must win.

If you want to be so literal with the use if the word 'must' then it should really be reserved for life/ death stuff.

Must eat
Must drink
Must find shelter

The use if the term 'must win' is I think a lot looser than that in the minds of people using it.

I was at Palace last week, but first game back at the Lane is always like Christmas for me. Can't wait! Screw all this transfer bollocks, match day is all that counts!

I hope we go 4-3-3 with Townsend and Chadli flanking Soldado.

We'll need 3 bodies in midfield or I think we might get overrun

For those who are at WHL today, hope as soon as you see AVB break into the song "We shall overcome".

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vertonghen Rose
Capoue
Dembele Paulinho
Lennon---------------------------Townsend
Soldado

To be honest I wouldn't even mind if we went with Townsend on the left and Lennon on the right, with them switching wings from time to time.

I know Townsend is good at cutting in from the right and would probably get more goals from there but he has pretty good ability to pick out a pass and could do so from either wing. I would pick Townsend over Lennon if it had to be one of them but Lennon did look the most dangerous player against Palace and still won a penalty I guess, even though his end product is just awful most of the time.

Apprehensive for this one. Swansea can be tough to beat. On the plus side, they're unlikely to just sit in and defend and will probably play some football. On the other side, we'll have to defend properly. Fancy us by the odd goal.

Well now at White Hart Lane to watch my 1st League game since Hoddle was manager. I know embarrassing but there are reasons, 1 of them the reason I'm here so early as the place I can park for free and close I'm advised to be here 3 hrs early:(

Totally gutted really as when I got the tickets, we was still not selling Bale.

Well hope we have a great day, and that way this thread won't be full of moaning, and a pleasure to read.

none of this starting the match walking about -- get out of the gate and hit them early&often,.... gonna need to draw them out with an early goal and then they cannot sit back. GOLdado will eat Williams alive :ninja:

Spurs just need to start strong instead of jogging about for the first 60 minutes before showing some urgency,... I think Paulinho and Capoue can "urge" everyone forward,... just may need a cattleprod with Lennon :playful:

This game will be won in midfield - as do most games. Suppose AVB will be choosing Capoue - Dembele - Paulinho, which looks very strong indeed. COYS!

Actually he created a couple of chances ( at least 1 assist) from crossing from the left in the U21 game on Monday.

Teams are going to struggle big time playing football against us this season. Capoue/Sandro/Dembele/Paulinho are about as tough a midfield to compete with as any in the league. All about scoring goals for me. I'd expect us to win pretty much all matches that we score twice in.

Even with the ongoing Bale saga affecting our overall plans there is no doubt in my mind that we now have a more balanced squad than for many a year, plus strength in depth.
Am genuinely excited by this new season and believe if we manage to gel quickly with all the new players coming in we will have a decent shot at the title even if 4th place is supposdly our goal.

Comparing the squad in the era of Hoddle and AVB.... We are really rising!

I've got a feeling that this will be a really entertaining game for the neutrals, but a proper nailbiter for the fans.
