It is interesting how much he's been written off, after just 45 mins of the first pre-season game. It seems obvious he's going to be our 2/3rd striker this season (if you include Son) and some of you may be right.

Come Christmas we should know if there's a player there. For me, I think there is but I could be wrong. What's telling for me is the team trust him and he gets on with them, also Pochettino has a ruthless streak and if he wasn't doing it in training then he'd be gone and we'd be looking for that elusive second striker......again.

So I'm going to trust Pochettino and the lads who work with him every day and my eyes as there's a player in there, he just needs to chill and not try so hard. If he gets an early goal in the Premier this year, we could see a very different player imho (he's much more relaxed at international level)

I agree but given our transfer budget / ambitions seems pretty limited in the current market there is also the chance Poch is just having to give him another shot because any realistic replacement would cost more than Levy willing to pay

What exactly are people demanding from a 2/3 choice striker that gets very few minutes?
Per season?

15 goals, 3 of which (minimum) must be 30 yard volleys, 36 nutmegs, 98 dragbacks, a pass completion rate of 190% and 76 assists. I think that's a fair ask for around 10 starts :wideyed:

Can't believe anyone that watched the PSG game can use that as evidence he's not good enough. He was even critical in our best attack that game (the one Davies finished).

Kane barely touched the ball that game. He must be regressing right?

Vince is a fine player. His confidence's low and it shows, but I'm sure he will have a decent season. He is a backup player after all. I could even argue he is third choice (after Son) when everyones fit.

What exactly are people demanding from a 2/3 choice striker that gets very few minutes?

In what world has he shown himself to be a fine player? He's slow, not skillful, can't control the ball and doesn't score goals....

Maybe? How much should we pay for a 2/3rd striker and who will be happy?

Unlucky to hit the post for the one Winks turned in. Nice finish for the equaliser against Roma. Good work down the right from GKN too to set him up. Good run across the defender by VJ to get the space. Shows he is learning.

Yep, but this will easily be ignored by his haters.
He only come on for 15 -20 mins and tbh he just made stuff happen, as he did on a few occasions last season...im really not sure exactly what people expect from the kid, pretty baffling stuff from some of the experts in here.

Damn I missed the game thinking it was on tonight

Glad to see he got a goal, hopefully his confidence will build from it

Feel like there is something there with him that might be worth persevering with but I feel like he needs to be playing consistently to reach his best. With kane that ain't gonna happen and he is sooooo slow that he cannot be classed as an impact type player.

Graeme Souness described him well very early on. He said how heavy legged he was and it looks like he's running through treacle. Ok, so I may have completely made that up but it does feel like that when I watch him. Having said that, what you do get is the ability to hold up the ball with that stocky stature. He'd probably partner quite well with a zippy little striker like Defoe or Chicarito.

I'm fucking livid. At one point, with his back to goal, he got the ball in their penalty area and he failed to turn, nutmug his marker, do 15 keepy uppies finished off by his catching the ball on the back of his neck before flipping it up and executing a perfect scissor kick volley into the back of the net.

Based on his failure to accomplish that simple task during that 45 minute first game of pre-season appearance we clearly need an upgrade :D

Thanks for posting that, my stream cut out just as he got the ball...
Damn VJ !

Regardless of quality, Janssen actually looks to be in better form than Kane judging from pre season.

Makes zero difference of course as Kane is way better, but he has looked out of sorts in the friendly games so far and VJ has arguably had more of an impact in those games.

I think the problem with Vince is mainly tactical. Last season on his rare appearances he was too unselfish, spending time in wide positions, playing in others etc. I'd like to see him take more of a Les Grossman approach, running into the penalty area screaming "I will f**k you up!"

I think he will want to leave , if yesterday is anything to go by , regarding min time.
World Cup coming up , he still looks like he's trying to hard .
