I was saying earlier this week that he's better than either Hudd or zokora, and neither of them will be keeping JJ out of the team on a long-term basis - ie this season or next (fitness permitting)

apparently he was suffering from some kind of illness today - all I can say is get well soon JJ - you're our best mid player, have been since Carrick left and I'm absolutely confident JR will be keeping JJ unless we buy 2 or 3 top mids this summer

I would just like to add that although Zokora has a high pass completion rate; how many of these passes are actually decisive? If there were some kind of point scoring system for passing, Zokora passes would be scoring the least points as they are usually backwards or sidewards.

In principle, I wouldn't disagree. And if he played to anything like his full potential week in, week out, I wouldn't have bothered adding the qualification.

His problem, like the team on the whole is consistency. :-(

fair comment 57 - it's just you know the rumours are out in full force now - and I guess it is possible JR will bring a couple of mids he wants and it's even possible JJ could leave - I don't think it will happen though, and I think JJ will be in our starting line up most weeks next season

Does anyone feel that because of Zokora's limitations with regards to his left foot, that subconsciously, Zokora covers positions that Jenas is already doing and that because of this, Zokora is playing like a headless chicken, when paired with Jenas?

So in essence, when Jenas and Zokora play, we are playing with 2 RCM's, when only one is needed...?

Just because The Hudd played badly today that doesn't mean Jenas is better. Thats a complete non-sequiter.

Quite simply Zokora can't play in a 3 man midfield. He is a DM and if we are hoping him to play some incisive passes it won't happen. That is what the Hudd is for, unfortunately Hudd and Zok went back to the way they played together last season when we all said they shouldn't play together.
JJ can play easier in a 3 man midfield than the other 2 as i think Tainio could too.

Dunno, GL. What's increasingly evident is that we don't have a CM pairing that works consistently for more than a couple of games at a time, and that we can't rotate our CMs in more or less any combination (a la United) and produce consistent performances.

Statistically, there's no getting away from the fact that we do better—a good deal better—when Jenas plays. What frustrates everyone is that he has all the attributes to become an absolutely top-drawer CM, and just when he looks to be on the way to fulfilling that potential he mysteriously turns into a pumpkin.

Two-man midfield, surely?

hi die gooners - it would be if I made that mistake - but it's you who's bringing in the non-sequiturs - I've been a consistent JJ supporter on this forum for years - JJ is a better mid than Hudd - if you care to read my post I even specifically mentioned I said so last week when after a good game by Hudd some people seemed to be thinking he was the new man for spurs mid and better than JJ

Surely we will be getting at least two new CMs in the summer.

well that was my provisio about whether JJ will be a regular starter - I don't think we will get two sufficiently good to oust JJ - but It is possible I can see

What about Jenas and O'Hara? Sure Jamie is young, but he is competent on the ball--I just wonder if his defending is sound enough. Personally, I'd like to see Teems get some more time with Jenas. Ultimately, it seems as though Juande will be looking to solve this problem in the summer transfer market. I for one hope that JJ stays and is part of any plans for the future...

I respect that opinion. Yet whether you have always been a JJ fan or not (and I actually really like Jenas, just don't think he plays well with Zokora), to bring up this topic merely because today our two centre mids had an off colour performance is not fair. Your opening gambit is a non-sequiter in that you claim we missed JJ today... Yet you cannot be sure that he would have played any better as the whole team was a shambles. But I'm not knocking your opinion, I find it refreshing to be constructively arguing with a man who does atleast have a decent grip on the english language.
