I've been watching him over the past two weeks and if not no.1 one keeper I would get get Al Habsi from Bolton as back-up or even no.1 if Bolton go down.

He was terrific for Lyn in Norway, but since he hasn't managed to force Jaaskelainen out of the side in two whole years and only got his chance now because the Finn is injured I'm not entirely sure whether he has the quality we're looking for, despite a brilliant game yesterday.

I've always liked the look of Ben Foster. What are the chances of him leaving UTD? I imagine VDS will still be first choice next season.

Gomes does. He doesn't catch much, but he punches clear, which in my book is dealing with the situation.

I was fantastically impressed by his display against us, and his telepathic understanding with his CBs. You'd almost have thought he and Salcido had been playing together for a couple of seasons.

Oh, they have.

I actually quite enjoyed their little exchanges  At the end of the day, he did his job well in my book, and we're not in the competition any more - largely because of him.

You missed their friendly exchanges in Eindhoven, then? My lip-reading in Dutch (or whatever those two use as a lingua franca) isn't too hot, but Salcido clearly wasn't impressed by Gomes' antics. Neither was I.

Great shot-stopper, easily the best keeper in the Eredivisie, not that there's a lot of competition (and yes, I have watched most of the games Setanta have broadcast this season), but I'm far from convinced by his all-round game. And don't forget he'll have to deal with far more high balls in the EPL than he does in Holland.

I saw the same games as you did SS57 - difference is, I was mightily impressed with him throughout both legs. If I had to name what I was most impressed with about him, I'd actually say his commanding of the area, and that included balls into the box.

Gomes wouldn't stand a chance in our goal because the minute he made a couple of rash decisions he would be completely vilified to the point where he would lose all confidence and end up being another good keeper that we have ruined.

true, in truth we need a steady keeper who may not make the greatest saves in the world, but is always reliable, with a decent kick on him. And ofcource a GK coach, and a experianced number 2

There were some seriously dodgy flaps, as bad if not worse than anything we've seen from Robbo over the past couple of seasons. There is a lot more to commanding the area than charging off the line at the drop of a hat and taking a wild swipe at the ball. You say we're no longer in the competition, largely due to him? Sure he made a couple of vital saves—and so did Robbo, otherwise we might as well have emailed the second leg result in.

Kameni presents similar problems, and Cudicini was hardly renowned for commanding his area—people seem to have forgotten that over the past four years.

As an all-rounder who is certainly going to be available, I'd be happy with Jääskeläinen.

don't judge gomes on one game against you and say he's bad on crosses.

don't judge kameni on one game against struggling barca who obviously want the champion's league more than la liga.

get canizares.

Who's judging him on one game against us?

And who's judging Kameni on one game against Barca?

Canizares could be a good shout.

Amelia is a totally different class to any of the other names in this thread.

Kameni and Gomez are likely to cost a lot of goals due to their maverick antics and tendency to flap. No thanks.

And Amelia did say we'd put in an offer for him back in January. I've never seen him play a full game, so really can't comment.

ive never really seen any more than a few mins of the others (excl gomes) but just from hearing stats, reps, initial thoughts amelia does sound like the best option.

Backup for italy behind buffon, and sounds like he will step up when boofy retires.

Canizares isn't a bad shout but doubt that he would leave Spain at his age. I actually think I heard that he is likely to retire due to the Valencia contract thing. Basically I think all the keepers are good. Also I think I heard that Ramos was gonna wait till the Summer for a GK coach. I assume he wants to see who his Goalie is before he gets in the coach
