Who would be an acceptable replacement for Berba?

I'm gonna virtually wank off spurs king by saying.....Bafetimbi Gomis. Check out his stats for this season and there's a few of his goals on youtube. He looks very much like a young Drogba to me and if we can't get someone as good as Berbatov, I say we just get a power striker because they are perfect for England (Yakubu, Drogba, Santa Cruz, McCarthy)
Or if we wanna go for something a bit more proven we should just sign Fred. His value will have dropped down to about 7 or 8 million by the end of the season and he's quality if given games.

Darren Bent can match Berbatov's goal tally I have not doubts about that, but for assists and hold up play probably not.

The key to replacing Berbatov is to gain better creativity on the left wing and maybe central midfield.

If - IF - Berbatov goes we have various options in terms of how we move forward. Torres, Drogba I'd happily welcome but they won't happen so pointless talking about them.

Kanoute could quite easily perform the roll that Berbatov fullfills for us but alas, I think this unlikely for similar reasons as mentioned by others.

So we either try to find a Kanoute/Berbatov/Viduka type - a skillfull, classy fulcrum - or we adjust slightly and go for tougher (but as technically good as possible) foil for Keane (and VIlla ?). Someone like Carew, Kanu, Adebayor, etc. Whilst adding creativity to our midfield (wide or central) to compensate for the lack of creativity that Berbatov provides. I personally would be happy to go for someone like Kuyt. He works his nuts off every week despite playing horribly out of position, whilst not being of Berbatov quality technically he is good enough and would love to get back up front (albeit as the fulcrum for Keane/Villa?).

I disagree with what you said about Berbatov's performances. I think since Ramos got here he's rarely put in a lazy one. We've seen more graft in the last 4 months than the previous 18. I think we'll haveno problem getting 25 mil for him at all.
And while I don't agree that Zokora will ever be "top world class" I do think that his contribution has been vastly under rated often and is probably the most consistant CMid we have by a mile. And is definately better than Tainio.

if anything, it would be Ronaldo is what Federer is to Tennis

It's right, Cristiano Ronaldo is the most successful player at the moment, but I was talking about his class, composure, elegance, whatever he does seems effortless, just like Federer when playing. He has the winning attitude as well, hopefully his Number One in the world status will come playing for Spurs...

Ronaldo would be more like an Andre Agassi or Lleyton Hewitt IMO, more emotional and fast footwork oriented player, still a legend though.

Sloth - I'm seriously beginning to doubt your grasp on reality here. First you argue that Ramos will turn Zokora into a world class CM, then you suggest that Berba's performances this season will have put top clubs off signing him. Berba has been outstanding in almost every game since Ramos joined.

Berba is our most important player: he's the fulcrum of the team and essential for the way Ramos likes to play football. Del Nido would ask for an absolute king's ransom for Kanoute, and given he'll be 31 in September and has been carrying a serious groin injury for 2 seasons, there's no way Levy would pay.

Meanwhile, Abramovich is apparently willing to break his mobski bank to replace Drogba with Berba at the end of the season. I'll be gutted if he goes, but my asking price would start at £50 million and probably include Joe Cole.

50 mil+ joe cole? that would just about stop me from wanting to killl levy. seriously though, even a straight swap with joe cole wouldn't be too bad..

somebody told levy berba's gonna be 28 next year and he's been transfer listed! eheh:)

Berbatov is special. It will interesting to see if he will be put under the 'resign' pressure that other players have been over time. In some ways I would rather have him play to the end even if we miss out on a pay-off for letting him go. He is a once in a generation player, plays for us and we need to enjoy him while we can. Whether Levy and his spivs reap money for his sale doesn't worry me. I'm more worried about my team than the pockets of businessmen.

I second Diego Milito. Class, great target man, impeccable touch, and can score a variety of goals.

[/list]Huddlestone was born with fantastic composure, Zoko wasn't. And yes, I would even go so far as to say that Big Tom has a small but genuine chance of being world class. Unlike Zoko...

I think you may be misreading slow and cumbersome for fantastic composure.

Spot on. If we have a midfield that can provide for the strikers then we don't need someone like Berbatov to create everything for us.

Obviously the ideal situation would be to have a midfield who provides for the strikers aswell as Berbatov to do his thing, but if Berba was to leave then we probably need to sort out the midfield before deciding which strikers to move for.

spot on. ramos most certainly realizes it. if we lose berba then at least we will have a small fortune at our disposal together with the regular amount we would've spent anyway. it will make it a little bit easier.

Manchester City are preparing to table a £32m British record bid for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov. (Sunday Mirror)

A bit strange that by Man City. Unless he was going to be paid a Kings Ransom, why do City think that Berbatov would give up European football, all be it Uefa cup, for none? Then again we missed out on Petrov because they were willing to pay him a kings ransom..........

Can't see it happening, but, if true, it will at least separate the men from the boys. When the likes of Petrov, Parker and Duff went to teams offering more money but with less chance of success, it made my mind up that I didn't want them anyway. If Berbatov does likewise (which I don't think he will), we are actually better off without him.

Is why I have plenty of patience with Bent. The guy turned down hatfuls of money to come to Spurs. That in itself speaks volumes

The only reason we need Berbs to link play is because our current midfielders can't do it. Go out and buy the required midfielders and having a striker provide the link play isn't quite so necessary so we could look for a pure finisher.
