I wouldn’t be so dismissive here. If we got Deeney on loan because he’s “free” and available so we have cover for the 1st few weeks, so be it.

We don’t get forced into “overspending” for options we aren’t thrilled with, have cover for the next few weeks, and don’t preclude ourselves from looking at higher quality options later in the window.

There are going to be bargains late this year. This may be like an old school window where more teams actually do need to sell to balance books.

My lad’s Sunday team manager is an academy coach at Watford. He knows Troy pretty well (sent the lads a good luck message ahead of their cup semi last season) and says he’s going to WBA.

Yeah I think it’s the most likely. His experience would suit them and I can see him getting on well with Bilic.

Troy Deeney on his future:

"I definitely still see myself as a Premier League striker. I scored double figures last season on one leg. Now I’m over my knee troubles. I’m back on two legs.

"I got ten in the league from 27 games, which was not a bad return. I know it includes penalties but Bruno Fernandes scores penalties as well at Man United. I’m not comparing myself to Fernandes but I’ve scored the opportunities presented to me.

"How many did Sebastien Haller get last year for West Ham? Six or seven. Or Joelinton for Newcastle? Two. Put it into context: these are £40million players and I only cost £300,000. My time’s not up."

I love this mentality.

It's a damn shame his talent doesn't woo me as well.

In my opinion we’re still missing an opportunity here. If a loan really was an option I think it would be a damn good one.

he’s a pain in the ass to play against and her be happy to come off the bench. Maybe his only oppty to play at this level. He’d do a decent job for us when we desperately need bodies.

Fuck it, I’d take him.

At this point I have zero confidence in Levy paying the going rate for a striker of any sort of calibre.

I think he's quite a likable guy. know's what he is and does well from it. I think his comments rubbing Arse up the wrong way probably got me sold on him. Sort of player that would at least make the last 5 minutes of games competitive in both boxes and you know other teams would dread him coming on. Not sure we should be signing him but I wouldn't be against it if we did.

People can say what they like about Troy and fail to look at where this guys come from, you have to give him some respect.

He is a captain leader talisman big character 100% professional seriously as a stop gap cover we shouldn't turn our noses up. If all fails I'd rather have Troy Deeney as an option.

If it comes down to signing Troy Deeney on deadline day or going without yet again, we'd be stupid not to do it.

Having said that, I really really really hope it doesn't come down to this...
