Holtby.

Dat backheel.

Couldn't be Holty, it comes over his head! Lamela then heads it down to Holtby, he makes the run and then Holtby slips him in.

What are the rules on the ball being outside the box because because to me, the ball was still touching the line.

Jeeeez!

What a great goal, Lamela wins the header, Holtby plays a semi 1-2. Lamela nutmeg passes first time to about the only place Little Paul can back flick score from all at breakneck speed.

Truly wonderful :D

Lamela's reaction to the goal.....

I dunno why but it always gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside when I see a new Spurs player properly happy when we score rather than having a bit of a "meh" reaction.

For no good reason at all, really, it gives me the impression that he's genuinely happy to have signed for Spurs.

Oh, and one other wholly unconnected thing.........that kit looks fucking class.

If it was touching the line then it was in the area is my understanding.

The rules can sometimes be a bit vague so no idea if the ball was only overhanging the line whether it would still be classed as inside the area as with corner quadrants etc. I'd assume it would be though without going through the tedious laws of the game.

For the goal, watch the movement of Soldado - think he brings one of the defenders with him, there number 4 - which leaves more space centrally.

Then it's inside the box. Just as when a foul happens on the line it would be a penalty.

He did well to recognise he wasn't in a position to receive the ball and quickly got out of the way. Certain players would of stood there gormlessly demanding the ball. Great run by him, do feel for him not scoring in open play yet - deserves it

Then it is in the box.

Think goal. If the ball touches the line. No goal. If it crosses the line...

Playing devils advocate you could say from the goal line rule that the ball has to be completely over the line to be in the box...

I'm genuinely interested in what a ref has to say.

I thought this as well, but then I've just seen this picture. Love Hugo, but definitely out

EDIT: But I can't believe that in real time anyone could be 100% sure that it's out. So don't think the referees had a 'shocker' here as he has to be 100% to make the call

I still prefer this than Friedel rooted to his line.

Anyway, he had to do it. He was put in an impossible position. Zero error from him there. Did his best and got away with one.
