Best evidence that it isn't him is that the only picture is this monstrosity. If he actually went there would be much clearer images.

Whoever started this rumour took the worst picture possible in order to give the rumour legs.

Too much news from spain and here linking him to liverpool though. We may have enquired and watch, but i'm not sure we'll get him.

Fair play to Liverpool if they snap him up, will be surprised if they do, they seem to have enough 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 options as it is.

Agreed with the media coverage but they have a lot of midfield players already - , classification between CM's and AM's is mine so may not be correct :

Liverpool's CM's - Lucas, Milner, Can, Henderson and Allen.(5)
Liverpool AM's - Origi (winger/striker) Firmino, Markovic, Ibe, Lallana, and Coutinho.(6)

So they need to unload a couple to buy imo - and they've bought all of these, as opposed to us getting some of ours via the youth system.

Liverpool will snap him up. We do need that elusive DM, though. Still holding out for Bender.

But you're relying on brentan having a coherant transfer strategy. The bloke is the human equivalent of a magpie, if it's shiny he wants it.

Oh and I forgot to add they have a captain (Henderson) at cm and also an expensive signing (Milner) so who's Rogers going to drop in a 4231 to accommodate Illarramendi ?

Agreed Rogers isn't logical on transfers but even he will spot the issue.

From an interview w Liverpool Echo journo James Pearce, who is reportedly close to Brendan Rodgers. Suggests that them moving for another DM is unlikely, especially until Lucas leaves, and that Rodgers often plans to play without a holding midfielder.

Is there any midfield signing looking possible for LFC? Lots of rumours but any real hints of any more signings?

James Pearce: As it stands, I'm not aware of LFC looking to make any further signings. Of course much will depend on whether Lucas does indeed leave before the window shuts on Sep 1.

However, Rodgers seems pretty relaxed about his midfield options even without Lucas.

There is a belief that Can can play that holding role, offering protection to the back four, and he's also got Allen to come back from injury.

Will Liverpool look to replace Lucas or are they happy with the midfield options?

James Pearce: Rodgers seems pretty happy with the options he's got in there. Obviously, Milner, Henderson and Coutinho will start the vast majority of PL games, and then he's got Can who he believes can play that holding role when it's required.

With Allen to come back and Rossiter coming through, Lucas maybe replaced if the right deal is out there but it's not viewed as a necessity.

Is Can ready to start week after week at DM? Asking 'cos I think Hendo and Milner need someone behind them...

James Pearce: From what I've heard, the staff do believe Can can play that role in front of the back four. I think it's needed more in the bigger games. Not so much when teams come to Anfield and sit back.

Aww man I hope this one is a goer. This is the type of player that helps us see out games like the Stoke one just gone. Intelligent, calm, silky smooth passer. Has a lovely knack of manoeuvring out of tight spaces as well. Would prefer this type of player than a straight destroyer, tackle-and-give-it type like Bender (although I'd definitely take him too.)

In terms of the Liverpool stuff to go along with James Pearce's comments. Ian Ayre himself said a week or so ago their signings were done for the summer, and Liverpool are stacked in midfield anyway. I'd say the links are just paper talk and keep cropping up because it's an easy link. I certainly hope that's the case anyway, if we could convince him to join Spurs it would be a real coup.

Obviously prefer full game highlights/touches as they give a better perspective. This one from Madrid v Celta Vigo...

He seems very calm on the ball, which I like. So many of our mids seem like a deer in headlights when under pressure. His technical ability seems legit too.

Speaking to some real madrid fans. They think he will take a while to get back to his best and that we can expect a few bad performances from him. They don't think he is anywhere near alonso's level.

This is exactly the kind of player that gets everyone excited but we never actually sign. I'm gonna go ahead and assume this isn't happening so it'll be a pleasant surprise if we pull it off, rather than the usual crushing disappointment if we don't.
