The match just showed as Trix and others have said it’s really all about next summer.

Let’s we if by focusing only on the league now if we can somehow sneak 4th but I think we will likely end up 6-7th.

If we can get Conte 5-6 in this summer we will be more consistent and play better footy next season, if it all goes tits up and Kane goes and Conte walks then let’s just get a manager in who tries to play front foot possession football again as these last 3 managers in combination with a lot of very average players is an absolute slog to watch especially when we don’t even win that often anymore.

I have grown numb to the feeling of not winning anything - I dont carry any such expectation with this club anymore. So, I am far more relaxed on a day like today.
Boro deserved to win fair & square. We were just 2nd best all over the park.

I cant wait for us boot Hojbjerg & Winks back to bench where they belong. Both atrocious today. And as for as Sonny - he gets a pass today but he needs competition. How can he be the unchallenged no7 for past 6 years ? Same like Kane, we need replacments.

Only way to avoid complacency is bringing in competition - Son Hobjerg Winks should have never played 60min let alone 120min - only reason they werent subbed was because we had no reasonable option on bench

27mins into extra time and winks still went sideways. He’s stealing a living at us.

Not overly bothered by this result. Boro deserved it, we didn't show up yet again and there are bigger things happening in the world that are weakening my interest in football atm. Hope to see some signs of consistency by the end of the season but trophies/league position aren't my concern at all after the shitshow we had last summer.

This is what happens when the midfield is left in tatters and we have a manager that wants to plays rwbs when ours are utter toilet. Oh. And won’t take Son off when he has been utter shite for months. Apart from one game.

That's all well and good but somehow we have to attract players to come here in the summer.

Sorry I don’t buy this at all, this isn’t a top 4 side, or a top half side. Why set up defence against them? Man for man we are better, change from our reindent formation, tell player to go out and beat them. We shouldn’t be setting up that way, control the ball and bully them. Look no win is guaranteed I get that, but I don’t get what’s to be gained from how we set up today.
Well I can only repeat what I said to be honest - Our wingbacks can't really create anything or beat a man, we have no real clever players who can operate between the lines, and a general lack of technical and tactical ability to play in tight spaces and intricately between the lines, pass/move and cut teams apart.

We have fairly limited runners on the flanks (Reguilon, Sessegnon, Doherty), haphazard dribblers in the centre (Bergwijn, Moura), one very good off the ball runner (Son), Kulusevski who is a bit of everything but not outstanding at anything, and Kane who can hit hollywood passes but neeeds the time, space, and runners to do it.

Plus Conte tactics have always been more towards the quick transitions end of the scale than control of the game with the ball. His Chelsea team for instance won the league by being the most efficient in their attacks, I saw a lot of their games and they most weeks contained a whole load of uber pragmatic nonsense during the 90 mins where the opposition made all the running.

I don't particularly like this style full stop I have freely admitted it over the years. But he ain't going to change his approach, and fans should have been braced for this and if they don't like it why demand his appointment. Plus currently our few outstanding qualities are largely Kane's passing and Son's running into space, so he like Mourinho is trying to maximise it even more. Even if that means sitting off lower league teams and trying to bait them into coughing up counters/transitions.

I get that but he needs a fucking good start to next season.
Maybe he’s trying to make a point that he needs certain players for ‘his’ system rather than try something different but he has no one else to blame come August and a very unhappy fan base to placate.
Agreed. Needs to be backed and a full pre season, then if it's still piss poor he's fair game imo.

Thoughts.

Conte couldnt have done more. Played same 11 that were brilliant at Leeds. Had one option off bench that he brought on (ok maybe 5/10mins earlier if we are being petty). Even went more attacking to fit all attacking players in and went for it.

Not his fault we are, yet again, short of options. Maybe one criticism is that Son should've been subbed for Bergwijn.

Criticism about sitting deep all game. Ironically we broke on them so many times in first half but it broke down through Kane or Son most of the time (just our luck).

If we dont finish top 6, hopefully finish 8th or below.

And 5/6 in wont be enough as it stands....

We are not getting top 4, so immediately hinders us in the quality of player we can get, no Champions League football. I expect Kane will want out (cant really blame him to be honest). Any crap about reinvesting the Kane money, pretty much nailed on we are not getting anyone as good as him.

I think this is all going to unravel unfortunately, it gives me no pleasure saying it and I think Conte will end up having enough. It’s a sad state of things, but Levy really should have gone ages ago. I can just feel another disaster coming. Unfortunately he is unmovable, but he has been a permanent fixture in our failings, continues to be and will ensure that goes on in the future.
