Fixture congestion is going to be ridiculous! I think the home teams should forfeit the points this weekend and then reply next week’s game if they are off too. It’s the only sensible solution.

Away teams get points this week, and to be fair home teams gets points next week.

I understand both sides to the argument but at the end of the day sometimes there are bigger things in life than a football match.

On the match, decision has been made, and I fully respect that and the reasoning — but there are always things in life bigger than a football game.

What I'm finding hard to understand that cricket and Rugby seem to be going ahead this weekend.

Why is that hard to understand? the different governing bodies have made different decisions.

I concede you are right about my last sentence and have subsequently deleted it. Sorry if I caused offense.
You may be right about deserve or not deserve missing a football match but I do feel sorry for people who are angry at the FA for cancelling them. This is not just an ordinary event.
Fair enough and respect for taking peoples comments into consideration. I agree with the rest - although I wouldn’t have cancelled the games I’m not up in arms or anything - as others said whatever choice they made some would aggressively disagree with it. It’s not an ordinary event and cancelling games for the funeral should be a given

You know what this thread really needs? Another 10 pages of people arguing over if the football should have been cancelled or not. Fact is it has and people moaning about it wont change anything.

I wish the football was on but I'm sure I can find something else to do.

WE MOURN OUR PATRON, HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II, FOLLOWING HER PASSING

We have sent our deepest condolences to our president, HRH The Duke of Cambridge and the whole of the Royal Family following the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

I don't think she had as big a connection to rugby or cricket, so probably why they are going a head this weekend

There's frankly also the fact that rugby and cricket fans are less likely to do something mind-numbingly stupid enough to provoke hostile media coverage

Spot on. I’m amazed at the number of people who don’t appreciate or understand the magnitude of this event.
Her death is the end of era. When she was born The British Empire was still in its pomp. As Head of State she presided over the peaceful dismantling of that .Empire and she did this with great understanding and dignity. She was in many ways our last link to those days and to the wartime generation which as Churchill said was our “finest hour”.
She wasn’t some political hack who happened to be PM for a few years. She was our Head of State for nearly three quarters of a century who presided over us moving from those Empire days to what we are now, basically a group of islands off the coast of Continental Europe. Through all that she embodied, to many people both here and abroad, everything that was great about our country.
If you feel her death doesn’t deserve missing a football match I feel sorry for

Missing a football match for what though, it’s not the day of the funeral; people will just go shopping, play sport or whatever. Or maybe you think everyone will sit in quiet contemplation or take a meditative walk, yeah right.
If she died during the Wimbledon Championships there would just be a little commemorative do.
They wouldn’t stop play for a day and extend to the Monday.

You're not seriously comparing it to individuals own mothers dying...

Fucking hell.
Not quite like that. But I do compare it to JFK. Or, that is to say, the impact it had on a lot of people.
Another example is the day Lennon was killed. I still remember loads of people crying. I was young and didn’t understand why. I was born in NYC. So, was there the day it happened. And it was like someone had lost a loved one. That was the vibe.

So many similar examples. EG; Gandhi. Those that loved him, yet didn’t know him were distraught over his death. It felt personal.

All grieve in their own ways. In a case like this, perhaps this is grief about an era, and everything therein experienced by the one grieving.

I say, live and let live. Let people process emotion as is fit for them. judgement of that emotion (grief or joy) is slightly unfair, as you’ve never walked a mile in their shoes.

I am never shocked by the vitriol and sniping on SC. Sometimes it can go to far, but generally it is what it is. But the reaction on here towards those sharing their own feelings of sadness and grief is something i personally find odd and a little sad. Especially those who are being quite vicious. Seems misplaced.

I think the Monarchy in general is much more important to the last 2 generations than my own. I'm 32 and have personally never been bothered either way but the Royal family. Its quite likely my generation are a little more ignorant to what they've done in the past compared to what they've done in my life time.

Having said that, I did watch about an hours worth of videos on YouTube last night and found out alot about the Queen, especially in the earlier days. She was a brilliant Queen and I loved the fact she was always correct and proper when needed but clearly had a mischievous side and an excellent sense of humour. I did have a few tears in my eyes while watching those videos.

Now on the footballing side, I'm not sure why postponing the games is a sign of respect and mourning as others have stated the respect that would have been shown before hand to me personally would have been alot more heartfelt than not playing them at all.

I also see the flip side. From a personal perspective it seems to have affected people 50 and over far more than those younger. And I don't mean just posting pics and RIP on Facebook I mean genuinely upset them so I can understand maybe those would not have liked to go to a football match this weekend.

All we do know is this will effect everyone differently. So there really is no "right" way to go about this, the decision has been made now we just get on with it.

I understand both sides to the argument but at the end of the day sometimes there are bigger things in life than a football match.
Love this.
