Bentley is a very good player imo (reincarnation of Beckham tbh - without the other ManU kids to make him seem as good.), however 17+robbo is over the top. If however as has been said 13+robbo thats ok by me (tho still overpriced).

If they managed to get Santa Cruz and maybe even Gamst Ped, I'd be happier still.

This provides two points of discussion. 17 million pounds is fair enough in my opinion for David Bentley. However, with Paul Robinson also included, we surely have the better of the deal.

I read this as a Spurs fan's p.o.v. and I'll admit I thought 'Harsh...but maybe fair.' Just kidding.

Anyway, in a summer where Gary Barry will move for 18m, I think 17m isn't that bad for a guy who will score more and create more. If nothing else, it will take the focus of his fee from Darren Bent's shoulders.

EDIT: Also, surely Blackburn see us as a rival. So however much we might not like it, it's like us getting 30m for Berba (assuming we did). Yes it's far more than the player's worth but he's contracted. And they did finish above us last season.

Robbo to Blackeye will only happen if Sparky succeeds in luring Friedel to City. You've then got the question of how far Hart's nose will be put out of joint.

It must be £12m + Blobbo, which valuing him at £5m gets you to £17m. At least I'm praying thats the case. Knowing Levy, that £12m will be a £1 a week for the next billion years, plus £1m when Spurs win the world cup, etc.

Or if Martin O'Neill takes him to Villa as is being reported today. We'll see. I suspect we will get rid of him for around £4.5m and will pay approx. £15m in installments and add ons for Bentley.

Friedel will go to Villa to be back-up to Guzan? I think that's the Mirror having a giggle.

If this is true (it will be about the 352nd time we have 'signed him') then i'm all for it I don't think it will be anywhere near the 17mil mark 12mil plus robbo will be a good move all round. The interesting thing is though with Berba stairing the exit door firmly in the face we're gonna want a target man who can head the ball well with Bentley in the team.

I'm hoping it's £12m plus Robinson or £15m without Robinson, I think that's too much.

hope they will back to ask for Malbranque as replacement, then I'm sure we could get £6m for him :)

If the deal is around £9.5 million in cash (as some of the ITK has been indicating), another £3 million in clauses, plus Robbo (valued at c£4-5 million), I really hope this screws the goons.

In other words, I hope our lawyers, together with Blackburn's, have been studying the fine print of the scum's "sell-on clause" which allegedly grants them 50% of any transfer fee. And that the deal we are structuring with Blackburn minimizes the amount of filthy lucre going anywhere near the goon bank account.

That is a very important consideration. In which case the sticking point could be Friedel. He's signed another year's contract extension and has said he loves it at Blackburn, so it would depend on his willingness to go to City or (less likely) Villa.

People are also assuming Robbo will want to go to Blackburn. If he doesn't want to go there surely that screws up the whole player exchange idea.

Very good point, these player exchanges can get very messy, but if it means Arsenal miss out on another 3mil I'm all for it.

I dont think its a player exchange deal. We are in talks with Blackburn for Bentley, and they want a new keeper, so they are in talks for Robbo. I'm sure the two deals will be done seperately. It was the same with Gomes. YP Lee was not part of the deal but PSV agreed a fee with us. Its then left to the player to agree with the club, but it has no bearing on the player coming the other way. Hence why Gomes is with us, but YP Lee is also still with us.

Rather Guzan will understudy Friedel as he adjusts to the Premiership, perfect for Friedel who must be thinking of retirement, even better because he'll be able to help the development of his fellow country man. Makes perfect sense to me.

Guzan won't be a backup. They might not create great outfield players here in the States (yet) but their goalkeepers rival any nation. And Guzan is fucking good.

According to Sky Sports News Bentley is not in Blackburn's squad for tonight's friendly away at Macclesfield.
