for what its worth Daily mail are saying its done in a deal worth 17m (11m plus Robinson) However as Ince said "why would I want Paul Robinson" makes this story seem like a pile of crap

However if true 11m plus Robbo is a good deal. Although the club value Robinson at 6m your only worth what someone is prepared to pay for you and no one seemed keen to pay 6m. Considering the club bought Robinson for 1.5m this in actual fact makes the move cost the club 12.5m which is good

To be honest, i dont think Ince really knows whats going on with Bentley. I dont think we've made a bid, but we're in advanced talks over a fee. I'm sure the Villa statement will just hurry things on a bit, in much the same way that Crouch's move was hurried along at our expense.

He may do. But it's about how we do business.

That old 'doing business with a bloke trying to sell a washing machine' bit about Levy is in my mind. I bet we've not made an offer as this isn't how we work. Blackburn have allegedly moved the goal-posts on the deal a few times, which would be enough to put me (and therefore presumably DL) off going in with a straight-forward deal.

I bet we've been allowed to speak to the player pending agreement on a deal (which Ince hasn't confirmed or denied) and meanwhile are having discussions with the club about the structure of the deal, which is far more important to us than the amount.

If we can make it so that we only give them 5-7m up front and then 10m more on appearances and England stuff then I don't think anyone on here would mind that. But as I say, the amount is less crucial than being allowed installments and over a period of time.

Plus, of course, it never hurts to wave another clubs interest in the face of the prospective buyer. I'm sure that's all The Spider is trying to do in this instance to make sure he doesn't have a player who won't be there in September getting in the way.

Apparently Bentley didnt play in the blackburn friendly tonight because he had a calf strain....whatever....

looks like hes gonna sign for someone this week...i personally dont want him to join us because

1. he used to play for the scum
2. hes an arrogant p***k (refused to play for Eng U21)
3. Ovepriced

Well you may have a little dilemma on your hands by the end of the week then....

Who cares if he used to play for the scum? If he can help Spurs then that's the main thing. Always be a Spurs fan first and a scum hater second.

As for his refusal to play for Eng U21 I've said it before and I'll say it again...fair play to him. It proved to be exactly the right decision for his career and I don't blame him for that at all. I'd actually be happy if all our English players retired from international football with the way the England team is going at the moment.

I'll concede the third point though. We'll pay over the odds for him but fortunately we're not strapped for cash so it's not a massive problem.

No but that's hardly the same thing is it?

Bentley played for the scum a few times as a youngster and then left having seen that they wouldn't know an Englishman if it slapped them in the left testicle.

Judas strung us along in the belief he'd sign a new contract after we paid for and contributed to his entire football education, then sold us up the river for our greatest rivals.

Hardly the same thing is it?

And so by this logic, you would not accept Cesc coming over [granted, he does come across as an arrogant so and so], after say he has spent 2 years in Barca and only 25.

This is all purely hypothetical of course. Ahh what the hell, fookin SCUM!! but I am a Spurs Fan First..... Oh so confused....:shrug:

On the BBC atm:

Blackburn boss Paul Ince has revealed that Aston Villa have lodged an offer for midfielder David Bentley.

The England international, 23, did not play in Blackburn's pre-season victory at Macclesfield on Monday because of a calf problem picked up in training.
Bentley has made it clear that he wants to leave Blackburn and has also been linked with Tottenham, who Ince says are yet to make an approach. "We have had an offer from Aston Villa, but I do not want him to go," he said.

So according to the quote from Ince not only not close - we've not even bid.

Does anyone else think Ince has spoken about the Villa bid to put pressure on us to make a large offer?

Wouldn't be too fussed if Villa signed Bentley. He's a good player, but wouldn't improve our team significantly for the money quoted. I've still got great faith in super Aaron Lennon.
