Poch should resist the temptation of playing the comple first XI today. This game provides an opportunity to keep players fresh and to heel a bit from any nagging injurues without causing damage to the season. Only player we cant sit, unfortunately, is Kane because both Son and Chadli are no where even remotely close to being good enough to even start a premier league game at their main positions at the moment, let alone a backup one.

With this in mind, we have to rest Toby, Dier and Alli. And if we have a big lead at half, then take off Kane for Harrison.

Lloris
Walker CCV Wimmer Rose
Dembele Carroll
Lamela Onomah Eriksen
Kane

Vorm, Alderweireld, Bentaleb, Mason, Winks, Son, Harrison

Why do we need to rest players? We rested most of the 1st 11 the other night and with us practically out of the el we will be basically be playing one game a week from now on

Despite the much discussed failure to take chances, we've actually handed out a lot of wuppings this season. If we are professional and determined today should be another.

Dier and Toby have played just about every game but like 2. That's why. Not only physical fatigue you need to watch out for. Mental fatigue as well.

Dont rest anyone. 3 points against villa is as important as 3 versus liverpool. We just need to look at the game thats infront of us and field the best possible 11. We are out of europe(most likely). League is all that counts.

Dier was rested Thursday and CB backs and the role dier plays for us doesn't require as much running as the rest of the team.
As for mentally I would assume that's an individual thing that I'm sure our medical team monitor

From Sir Alex Ferguson 101 on squad rotation.
You do not rotate your goal keeper, central defence and midfield anchor.

Dier didnt travel to Germany due to injury. He is available today. But he still could have lingering effects from his injury. Wouldnt you want to give him another game and make sure he is 100% fit if you could?

The people against resting players in easy games/cup games baffle me. We play a high octane system that uses up alot of energy. Add to that the most rigorous training regimen, with only 1 day off a week. It's physically and emotionally draining. These guys arent robots FFS! We've seen this every year from Poch. His teams have a tendency to collapse as the season winds down. Players need rest sometimes. Many wont be getting it during int'l windows or during the summer either due to the international tournaments. We need to give them a game off when we can to keep them fresh.

I'm just glad Poch isn't taking this stupid attitude that today will be an 'easy game' where we can just stroll about and get the 3 points.

Going to repeat here what I said in the FA Cup thread.

It's between us and Leicester for the title in my opinion, City are completely inconsistent and woeful (Yet they thumped Villa 4-0 so no excuses for us today) and Arsenal are just as bad, neither of them have it in them to put a strong run together between now and the end of the season.

The only two clubs capable are us and Leicester and we need to start today by putting a mark down, not some scrappy 1-0 win, we need to thump Villa and put the fright into Leicester, heap pressure on them before they have to play a Rafa Newcastle who are looking to impress and who defend like animals to deny Leicester any points.

We NEED to win today and win convincingly, no excuses.
