This refusing to play thing is very annoying yes but it seems to be standard practice with players pushing for dream moves. Berba, Modric and Bale all did it to a degree and we buckled each time. Imagine he signs for Arsenal on a short term deal and pulls the strings for them up front while we are stropping around bitterly thankful we didn't sign a quality player just because he left acrimoniously years ago!

Come on it's not like he's your ex girlfriend or something.. it's football ffs. Don't take it personally. I'm sure we'll all get over what happened should he perform well for us.

I agree with this post and we shouldnt take it personally as this is football

However the same doesnt apply to campbell if he was still playing and contemplating a move back. He'll never be welcomed by me. Never

Anyone else out there a Boss or Head of Department at work?

I am and I'd struggle to justify to myself (and my superiors) bringing back a disruptive and often lazy individual to come in and do the work I could probably get if I chose to take a bit of time to look throughout the job market. Additionally it would be tough to justify considering the stink of the circumstances the individual left in the first place.

Furthermore, I think I'd have to be in a rather dire situation to take the chance that said individual would be able to replicate past performances when you take those circumstances into account.

Probably doesn't apply as they are worlds apart but the thought just came to mind. Then again, I wouldn't be against us signing him just to stick him at CB and see just how cultured he really is...

People always use this analogy but it's deeply flawed.

What kind of company are you a boss at? Most companies have a vast pool of people capable of doing most positions. You don't need to tolerate disruptive influences in most industries because you can go out and hire someone else.

It's different in football. There are very, very few people who have the skillset and abilities of Berbatov. This is why Man Utd paid over £30m for him. They knew about his laziness but if it was as simple as going out and buying a different striker with a better attitude they would. But they couldn't.

Are Liverpool worse off for sticking with Suarez? Should have simply said no we don't need people like you and bought another striker? Morally, yes but in reality no.

Berbatov has a huge amount of ability and the question is whether he wants to come and if he can replicate his old form. Would the gamble pay off?

My guess is probably no which is why I'm ok with a loan deal until the the end of the season possibly with Defoe or Adebayor going the other way.

But lets not kid ourselves that we can easily find a striker with a better attitude and perform better than Berbatov.

As I said at the end I'm sure it doesn't apply it was just some poorly constructed musings that had popped into my frontal lobe. Agree with everything you say, including letting JD go.

I do think there are plenty of options out there that could give the statistical output that Berbatov would give us, just maybe not with the same level of creativity/flair/frustration.

I'd still love to see Harry Kane get some more minutes in the league.

Creativity/flair would be the exact reasons we would buy Berbatov IMO.

Yes I am and agree with every word you say, apart from your final sentence!

You think so? Ade was far more effective for us last season than Berbatov has been for Fulham this. When you consider that Ade was absolute dross for much of last season, that's really saying something.

I'm amazed, again, at the number of people who want him back after the utter contempt with which he treated club and fans. Fortunately, as Spurs Bear posted a while back, this won't happen while Levy has a hole in his arse.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't spurs, AVB or Levy try a last minute coup before he signed for Fulham? And the only reason Berba said no was because he'd already given his word to BMJ, or so the story goes.

Right now who would be the best player leading our attack, soldado, Defoe, Ade or Berba? Forget what happened in the past, all modern day footballers are greedy bath plugs, Berba wins hands down all day long.

Of course we should sign him if available. We want to win the europa, who would you rather lead the line him or Defoe?
