Chiriches for Dawson?

Just a quick point: I had a glance at the first couple of pages of this thread and some of the wild exaggeration put me off (as usual). Can people PLEASE not go over the top all the time, especially as it makes you - and your point - look stupid.

For example:

Dawson is not "awful". That is just simply a fact.

He'd get into most Prem teams, he has played for England, he is a good player. The same goes for Walker. The question for us is, are they good enough for what we want right now?

So can we frame a discussion around the facts rather than just abusing a player for once please?

Rant over.

It's the truth in your head.

But to anyone who has a clue, it's...just a bad smell.

It's the voices in your head that you need to have a word with.

Actually don't you'll get more confused and start thinking Sigurdsson is better than Eriksen.

I think people are confusing speed with footballing intelligence/reading of game/ability.

I'll say it again: Walker without speed = Naughton.

I'm not "confusing" anything Buddy. You can edit peoples posts down and "say it again" all you like, your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's.

Because it's correct, I think you'll find it is.

But in the end it's just a forum and we can agree to disagree. So....

Makes more sense than you...

Oh. Yeah. Went there.

Let's stop. It's childish.

We're both right in our own way.

Especially mine.

Not so much yours.
Says the guy with a teddy as his avatar....

But you're right, bored now.

It's called having conviction in my opinions. ;)

If I end up being wrong on something, I'll own it. Not afraid to be wrong. But if I'm positive about something then I'm all in.

And that's all they are, opinions. Not the be all and end all.

Anyways, Dawson is crap as is Walker.

We'll all come back to this thread after the Villa game and we'll see who was right.

I never understand why some people, who I assume are adults, find it impossible to give a balanced view.

How can anyone when analysing our squad genuinely say "Dawson is crap?"

He has played over 200 games for us under various managers and has played for England.

I think you can argue that we need better, that he doesn't suit AVB's style etc but anyone calling him useless simply looks like a fool.

Our 1st choice centre-backs are surely Kaboul and Vertonghen. Having Dawson as 3rd choice is great. He is loyal, never agitates for a move and plays to the best of his ability.

I don't see any need to rush a 23 year old into the 1st team when he has only been here 6 weeks. In Chiriches' performance so far he has looked a little nervous and don't believe rushing him into the 1st team would be better him or improve our results.

In time Chiriches will hopefully become our 3rd choice centre back and maybe push for a 1st team place. Not that it really matters as it is a squad game. Capoue is said to be a solid centre back who looks quick and comfortable on the ball so maybe come the end of the season Dawson might just find himself out of the loop.

But lets not go ott and make out he is useless or come across as looking forward to his next mistake so you can pretend you were right about him.

TBF, no one of note would realistically be in for him. Maybe a Championship club or two.

Dawson loves the club and fans, at away games he always comes to the fans and appreciates us and the feeling is mutual in return. I like him as a player but don't think he is quite the top quality we are looking for. I also like Walker and wouldnt replace him. Vertongen is a CB, not a LB, never ever and he doesnt like playing there either so lets not upset our best CB at the club. Come Jan, I'd like Walker - Kaboul - Vertongen - Baines as our back 4.

- Before Sunday we'd conceded 2 goals all season with Dawson in the team.
- Those saying 'they saw this coming' are lying, they just don't rate Dawson and pounce on a bad defeat to blame him.
- 9 outfield players were just as poor on Sunday, it was as bad as we've been (all over the pitch) for a long time.
- Vertonghen was equally poor. And the criticism that he is not at last year's level is valid.

The options are Chiriches - a brave choice as he's only a few weeks into English football. Who knows what a bad result like Sunday's would do for his confidence??
Or Kaboul - yes everyone (generally) rates him but face it, he's nowhere near available for selection.
It appears most people (including me) see Kaboul and Vertonghen as our best pairing but that ain't happening for months, deal with it.
