I think Dempsey probably brought them to Tottenham and Bale will keep them around.

Bale is the ultimate sports star for Americans. We all love the clutch performer, the star player, the guy who is not only awesome but he's an awesome person. I can guarantee you that Dempsey did bring a bunch of fans to notice Tottenham from America, but Bale is the reason many of them will also be sticking around long after Dempsey's departure.

I do appreciate Dempsey as a footballer and I won't forget the two goals against United this year. He at times was a valuable member for the club and other times was just a whole bunch of 'meh.'

I'd personally love to see him at Everton. I think it's the perfect level for him and with Everton's past/current success with Americans, I can easily see the fit.

Good point but a bit of a reach. no Champions League = no attraction of casual fans

That stuff about keeping him for marketing is nothing but an uninformed dream, if anything the fans shabby treatment of Dempsey have turned American soccer fans off Spurs.

I'm a fan of Dempsey, but if some American fans are gonna get their pantie's in a twist (notice I used the American acronym for you) over a few fans view's in a forum, then fuck them, we only want supporters that have a genuine love for the Club.

precisely, then why artificially try and gain fans by signing a player from X nationality like many posters are saying.

Don't mind clint. He probably frustrated me more than any other player but he reminds me a bit of VDV in the sense that he gets up for big games and does a job, likely to pop up with a goal in them too.

If he stays he has to be a squad player but a useful man to have on the bench IMO

The best thing about Clint "spastic feet" Dempsey is he ensured almost all of our games were shown live in Amerikkka

seeing as how I currently live on this cocaine and meth energized part of the world that's great

he can stay one more season for that alone and keep our bench nice and cozy

I dont buy into that myself, he was purchased because we needed a Forward with about 30 minutes left of the transfer window. I guess marketing plays some small part but he played enough games last season to say he was purchased for his footballing ability.

I really don't understand where you're going with this. Getting him in increases our profile overseas, and what you're trying to say is that americans don't really like Spurs because some fans on a random internet forum doesn't think he's the bees knees?

I was hardly comparing their footballing abilities. More of a mental/personality type thing, and one aspect of it at that.

Eh... No. I was a Tottenham fan before Dempsey joined and I'll be one after he's sold.

Let me just say I'm not against selling Clint. He's older and I'd like to see him go to Everton if he did move on just because I don't hate Everton and could enjoy it if he/they had some success. As one of several American Spurs fans here our club has absolutely benefited off the field from Clint playing at Spurs. How much? I'm not certain in the overall scheme of things. Most Americans know they are not a top footballing nation and don't have any "World Class" players. Clint is the biggest (non-keeper) European success that America has produced in football.(not a glowing endorsement of American soccer) Every time he plays for the national team they mention Spurs right along with him. In the states we don't always share the "hate" that Spurs/Arsenal fans in the U.K. do because we're usually just happy to find someone to talk "soccer" with. I know plenty of Americans (some who support Arsenal) who pull for Spurs because Clint is with them. If Spurs win and Clint is a part of it then they take a certain amount of satisfaction(pride?) in that. This past season I never saw so many Spurs games selected for broadcast here. Having Bale and being in the top 5 teams in the EPL is another big part of that as well. Next year with NBC broadcasting every single game of the EPL here there is a real chance to grow the audience (and in turn the Spurs brand) in the U.S.A.. While I agree that Clint is a pretty average player by EPL standards he does seem to find a way to produce for his team and we'd probably be well served to keep him for the (bench/squad) both for his ability to show up late with the odd goal as well as keep the slow but ever growing spotlight of American eyes on Tottenham for at least one more year. One where (American) fans can see "every" Spurs game live.. I know most Spurs fans in England and throughout the world could prob give a rats arse about Americans supporting our club but I'm sure Mr. Levy wouldn't mind a few more Yanks spending their cash at the Spurs online shop....
