and his favorite player is bloody Gazza? and some of our lovely fans are on his back? Give the man some love will ya? He is one of us.

"I was looking round the clubs and when I found out Tottenham were interested, there was no other place I wanted to go. It's a club that's growing, with the new ground and new training complex. We want to be a top club, and I wanted to be a part of that. I want to look back on my career and say I've done something special, and hopefully that can be done at Tottenham."

BTW judging by his skills and commitment I would gladly give him the rains of our central midfield and the captaincy. But he has to get his hair straighten up first.

I believe, based on his last sentence, he is either a WUM or a mental...possibly both.

On a serious note, I am glad Bentley has shown some desire to earn a place in the side and put in some decent performances.

Problem is everytime he gets the ball he seems to want to slow the play down, check back or cut inside (beat a man more times than he has to) he is stunting alot of our attacking play as he is giving time for the defence to set a deep back line and make us win headers against them (with Crouch being our only option for this)

It is great that he has become an option at our disposal agagin though, better to have him in and around the squad then not. Problem is balance, a midfield consisting of him, Hudd and Modric at one time seems to slow and exposes our defence making all of them look less effective.

Hudd for example is very talented but needs others around him to do the running as his movement and positioning is poor (plus he relies on Lennon making forward runs for him to play his quarter back style passes)

Its all a matter of balance, we have alot of good players....not all of them compatable with the others (much like our Keane and Defoe dilemma) We will have to decide on which is our best midfield for the good of the team (rather than who is the best player)

Who knows maybe a

Krancjar Modric Palacios Lennon

could be tested once, looks great on paper although I fear it may not work out so great with Modders in the centre against tougher midfields.

no we shouldnt, defoe isnt exactly known as a target man who will hold up the ball and bring the rest of the team into the game, and add to that that neither bentley or modric are prolific enough to make up for the lack of goals that moving to this formation will lead us to have.

To be fair, the fella does keep tucking them tufts of hair behind his ears:grin: Actually, watching him doing this during the Bolton game, I was actually struck by the idea that it might be a bit impressive to see him come out of the tunnel with a skin-heed.

A properly motivated David Bentley, with his form and cinfidence reborn is surely an asset to a club of our aspirations.

In regard to Modders, yeah I would like to see him in midfield, but would fear our centre may become a bit soft against more physical sides. That is unless it were as part of a 4-5-1, but for that to work we would actually need lots of goals from the other midfield players, 'cos, sadly, Luka just don't produce enough goal threat.

Yes this does seem the case but lets take a negative and make it a positive. With Lennon its a case of get 2 men to mark him, foul him or whatever it takes to stop him. Now these teams are getting used to our pace and set up to deal with that but with Bentley its a different type of play, more skill than speed. We just need to get the rest of the team to get with it so we can change things completely when things ain't going our way.

Wasn't it said that he was a fan when he first signed? Thought it was well known, which would explain his celebration v the Arse.

He's really upped his work rate since coming back into the team, and it's good to see him playing well. Needs to get his crosses in early though, he seems to want to beat his man or else check back inside too often, and it's getting a little predictable. A bit of variation and he would certainly help us score more goals.

Wouldn't go as far as to give him the captaincy, or play him at CM, although with the way he can hit a ball it might just be what we need, given Hudd isn't playing the best at the moment.

Modric Palacios Bentley Lennon

Although it could be a bit suspect defensively. Also, I would rather see this;

Modric Kranjcar Palacios Lennon

it also says:
"As a Spurs supporter, returning for a local derby to the club that only ever allowed him one Premier League game, he had been booed all evening, scored the goal of the season, then helped his team to an invaluable and highly unlikely point after being two down with two minutes to play."

but i'm sure i've read in interviews that he's not a spurs fan. he said something like "most of mates are spurs fans and it's a big club with a great history" when he signed. anyway it's brilliant to see him happy - when celebrating his and other people's goals or when he wins a corner and gets a big cheer from the fans at the corner flag

but captain and CM? nah

Seriously we would get hammered if we played that formation.

There is no-one in the formation who can hold the ball up, so we will surrender possession from goal kicks constantly; crossing at height would also become irrelevant in that formation as there would be no-one to get there head on the ball, we would be weak through the middle as it would leave and over dependance on Palacios, Bale would not be able to get forward as we would struggle to get someone back into position too.

Just NO....

Sadly Bentley will never be happy with a bit part role and he's unlikely to ever get ahead of Lennon in the pecking order so even though he's done well in the last few games, I suspect a sustained period of Lennon being fit again will make him get the hump.

It's good that he's done well whilst Lennon is out and top marks to him for his attitude, but I suspect that whatever he does he won't get in ahead of Lenny and I don't think he's the type to sit around and not play.

If the crack of the whip Modric has received on the esteemed pages is anything to go by, Lennon will be getting 4/10s in match threads before mid-March and destined to be sold to Hull as soon as the window re-opens, anyway, so maybe Bentley will yet be first choice for us.

you cant deny modric has been poor since his returned from injury, but then another take is that the team has been playing poor since his return, hoofing to crouch there's not much point in him playing.

shame about bentley, straight back on the bench when Lennon returns, to bad we are not in europa i would like to see what he's like playing down the middle

I wouldn't say Modric has been poor, rather that he has been less effective as a result of us playing shit

And, therefore, if Lennon has three or four mediocre matches, we'll all be saying how remarkable this Bentley chap is, having 'David Bentley Appreciation Thread's and I'll be coming up with witty and original initials for his middle names.

You see my point, yeah?
