Does anyone else think Ince has spoken about the Villa bid to put pressure on us to make a large offer?
Yes. What is more the bid I think he's referring to is the one from them at the beginning of the window.

I can't remember whether it was posted in this thread or Discussion VII, but one of Randy Lerner's sidekicks actually posted in a Villa forum to say they'd bid a deal higher than the reported £10m.

I agree with some of the above comments that its Ince trying to put pressure on us and maybe start a biddding war for Bentley between us and Villa! I would like Bentley to joing us. However if we did "lose" him to Villa I wouldnt be 100% fussed as we still have Lennon and I think £17 million is far too much money for Bentley!

Agreed, let villa have him for 17 mil. Wouldn't pay more than 8-9 mil for him.

I honestly think we should forget Bentley. If we're selling Berba, we should invest the money in Santa Cruz and a proper defensive mid. As we already have Lennon, right-wing just isn't the right area in which to be investing so much money.

What needs to be considered is that a 10m footballer is not twice as good as a 5m one.

Once contracts, andd the relative positions of the clubs and wealth is taken into account, 17m is much fairer. Certainly no more ludicrous than us asking 30m for Berbs. Especially given that we finished below Blackburn last season.

Once the deal is structued and we realise that this isn't a challenge to Lennon but another top quality option for RM, RAM, CM, LM and CF then the price for a proven PL campaigner is really not so terrible.

His club don't have to sell. He might want a move but has done well over the past 2 seasons and that is reflected in his price. Not least because the club he's going to has a lot in the bank. Sound familiar?

Once again it's costing us that we're too slow to move for a player. We should've moved for Bentley last summer or this January, just like we should've moved for a proper CB and a proper defmid last summer.

We've been linked with Bentley since the second week of May at least, and were almost certainly making our first enquiries some time before that. These things aren't done over a weekend, particularly if a player's club is determined to hang on to him. This is the real world, not FM.

Perhaps we should visit the Magic DM Tree and give it a good hard shake.

even better, trick a mate into doing it and stand well back. they're not all diddy diarra sized players... i wouldn't fancy a knock on the noggin from a falling Papa-boba Diop

So, almost 1000 posts on this. Eek
Do I believe the (at least) 20 ITK's who have posted that it's 'done and dusted', or the new manager of the club who says that only Villa have made an offer.

I'm not saying they are.
I'm saying we could've saved a lot of money by moving for players earlier. Signing a Rocha who was ineligible for the UEFA, spending £14m on Boat and Kabo who wasn't ready for the prem, etc.

(That said, we've got a lot more of catching up to do, compared to teams like Everton, etc. Because of the transfer failures of the previous windows)

I dont know about Kaboul I thought he looked good in the games I saw him in (ok we lost most of those). He doesnt seem to have disicpline at the back but at the time I think everyone thought he looked great going forward and getting stuck in... he has time on his side.

Bent on the otherhand was a player that everyone's eyebrows raised from the start.

In fact a lot of the time they are simply quoting what the papers say. This sort of behaviour is becoming more and more frequent amongst the media, with papers quoting each other as well as TV stations quoting the papers.

It's becoming one huge ball of bullshit, the only difference is who starts the ball rolling on any particular day.

I think we have a much stronger squad then the likes of Everton, and anyone else outside the top 4. We just lack balance mainly. Just a few signings from being a clear top 5 team in my mind, and hopefully gatecrashing the top 4.
